Essay

Set Goals

The goals of this activity were to develop a software evaluation form to discriminate between adequate and undesirable tool software. This tool can only applied on software of either the same or different kinds of functionality.

Actions

This activity entailed a number of activities that are geared towards developing the software evaluation form. It entailed online research on the different types of software evaluation forms that can be applied to realize different results. While print material offered a number of software evaluation form samples, online sources proved to be particularly useful as they offered a wide variety of choices. A number of samples were identified, with the most ideal formats coming from three sources; (1) ICT4LT (Information Communications Technology for Language Teachers), (2) Course Web and (3) AMAC Georgia Tech website.

Monitor

All three templates collected each employ a different approach towards analyzing software. However, there are certain elements that appear to be consistent in all three templates. This mainly involves the different aspects of software that need to be analyzed for efficiency and feasibility. They include software instructions, usefulness and navigation of the interface and the learning considerations taken into account by the software’s design. However, the software evaluation form from AMAC Georgia Tech has included criteria that analyzes software in detail. This is the most ideal format.

Evaluate and Extend

Most of the features from the AMAC Georgia Tech evaluation template were adopted in formulating a software evaluation form. The developed form was used to test two web browsing software; Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. The evaluation was very useful in determining the most ideal browser. The developed software evaluation tool is a critical and useful tool for personal assessment of the performance and ease of use of different or similar software.
