Essay

It can be confidently said that during the previous decade, full of devastating tragedies and negatives such as terrorist bombings, tsunamis, wars, economic recessions and downturns, technology development was in a quick pace. During the 90s companies thrived to reengineering their corporations in order to improve their processes towards computer technologies. Starting with 2000, the Y2K bug startled the whole hi-tech industry, making the index of hi-tech companies, situated on the Nasdaq market, plunge by almost 4000 points. From those years the indexes never fully recovered, but hi-tech companies formulated a whole new approach in achieving profits. Major corporations developed new technologies where we would not be able to even imagine our everyday life. Some of the technological innovations are predicted to lead technology in the following decade. Technologies have been developed to be more mobile, accessible and less expensive for customers.

There have been many new inventions and innovations throughout the previous decade. It is enough to know how much was achieved when comparing the personal computers of the 90s and today’s, the brick cellular phones and today’s smartphones like the iPhone, the television-tube TV sets and today’s LCD televisions, the static internet and the modern AJAX and many-many other examples. Today’s IT enhancements lead the economy, corporations that use out-of date technologies in production suffer losses. IT giants of today are among the most influential corporation of the world. The companies that provide the latest hi-tech technologies for consumers succeeding over consumers attain the greatest of profits. New technologies are more and more economical, making them less dependent on fuel, at the same time the new technologies are not less powerful.

The 3G-broadband is one of the extraordinary inventions of the decade, it gave the possibility to use the internet at almost any point without wires. Even though it is not so developed, it will drive modern internet further into the future, where you can connect to the World Wide Web at any point with the touch of a button, using portable devices. The quality of the internet is rather fast and gives the opportunity for people to be always connected. 802.11g was the first generation of wireless networking, making it possible to do great office work and upload large capacities of information. 802.11g made Wi-Fi connectivity more efficient and popular, and wireless internet began taking a great pace. Thereby before the development of 3G internet, 802.11g made possible to use and establish Wi-Fi internet in public places. Among the great internet developments are the AJAX technologies of graphic user interfaces. The AJAX is a set of scripts and standards which developed web-pages making them more attractive.

Computer technologies were the leaders in technological progress. The priority in enhancing computers was operating speed. The greatest success in this area over the decade was Advance Micro Devices invention of the 64-bit platform on the already existing processor technologies. This gave a push for the 64-bit processors into the mainstream. This succession made personal computers, worth up to $1000 to be faster than computing centers of the 90s. This was also influenced by the innovation of multi-core processors. They used existing top speed processors grouped-up, diversifying computer processes among them.

Web browsers have also developed. After the trials over Microsoft for attempting to monopolize the browser market, web browsers like Firefox, Opera and others finally received the opportunity for progress. This opened a whole new market full of competition over dominance of the preferable browser. Google, an internet search engine did not stay behind. Google other than being the number one search engine in the world, began to be a leader in technological innovations. It develop multiple Google Apps, one of the most reliable e-mail providers in the world, an Android mobile phone platform, a Google Chrome browser, and an upcoming all new Chrome operating system. The internet enhancements contributed to the foundation of multiple social networks like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and others. Today social networks play a distinct role in verifying social relations between people and they are worth millions. Companies, before employing new workers check their personal accounts on these networks, study the peculiarities of the possible new employee, and only later make a decision in employing the individual or not.

Another great contribution into technology over the decade was made into mobile technologies. Research in Motion’s BlackBerry, Apple’s iPhone and iPod, net-books are the innovative technologies of the previous decade which moved the market in a quick pace ahead. These companies work intensively with economical nano-technologies, making it possible for everyday consumers to afford such products. The iPod was launched on October 2001, and it was a market hit. Apple was one of the first companies which wanted to satisfy the needs of consumers. The business strategy that was offered by Steve Jobs pulled Apple out of a downturn and made it an IT leader with products like iTunes the Mac X OS and its computers. Companies like Hewlett-Packard announced the first digital cameras, Dell announced the first LCD displays, but Apple’s iPhone was a true breakthrough. Censored hi-tech mobile phones seemed to be at least two years ahead of the technology on the market, forcing Apple’s competitors to gain up. Mobile technologies made connectivity, multimedia, and entertainment possible almost everywhere.

When analyzing the technological enhancements of the 90s we can say that they built the foundation for the quick pace of the previous decade. Silicon nano-technology, high-frequency radio signals all contributed. In the beginning of the previous decade the hi-tech industry understood that in the new millennium consumers will be orientated on innovations that bring us closer to the future. These innovations are to be affordable, only in such circumstances they will pay off and bring profit. The war in the hi-tech industry to build something all new is ever more pressing.
