Essay

Goal

My goal is to conduct research on use of technology in learning science and mathematics among students in high school.

Action

During my research, I came across very credible and informative sources on this topic, meant to enlighten teachers and students on technology use in learning science and maths. I started my research on http://www.ed.gov/oii-news/use-technology-teaching-and-learning.This website provided very vital information through links, which offered very vital information on use of technology in virtual learning, blended learning, and open educational materials among others. I also researched one more webpage http://www.ncrel.org/sdrs/areas/issues/students/atrisk/at400.htm that explored the use of technology on students who face the risk of failing in academics.

Monitor

In most cases, both girls and boys use technology in education and in view of the two websites; I did come across some sense of bias although not intentional. According to http://www.ncrel.org/sdrs/areas/issues/students/atrisk/at400.htm technology is mostly useful in handling long-term projects especially among ‘economically disadvantaged’ students. Even so, the other website did not depict any biasness issue. It focuses purely on use of technology in education specifically on learning and teaching of mathematics and sciences.

Evaluate And Extend

I found two resources http://www.ed.gov/oii-news/use-technology-teaching-and-learning and http://www.ncrel.org/sdrs/areas/issues/students/atrisk/at400.htm. The two revolves around the same thematic concern because they agree that technology offers students with a boost in terms of motivation and improvement in academics. The two have equally demonstrated teachers can access additional teaching materials from use of technology. Both genders have been provided with information on the way they can use technology to their advantage. As seen in the two, technology in learning has helped to reduce cost, besides providing additional resource materials. Technology can change the way students learn science and maths, and the way teachers handle teaching activities. It is upon boys and girls to use it to their advantage.
