Essay

After thoroughly analyzing the web page www.ted.com, our findings show the presentation, convenience, content, and overall functionality of the web page. The web site caption on the home page reads “Ideas worth Spreading”. The home page presents various selections of news stories in the form of blocks stacked upon one another with a news title and relevant picture in them. Clicking these news boxes will direct the user to the pertaining news story. Scrolling down further on the home page brings the user to a section where “TED books” are available for sale. At the very bottom of the home page is an “About TED” section.

There are five other tabs located on the top of the home page. These tabs read watch, read, attend, participate, and about. The “watch” tab will present the user to a list of video options relevant to news stories. There are also TED playlists available under the watch tab. The read tab will direct the user to blogs, newsletters, studies, and books. The attend section will present the user with opportunities to attend conferences and live events. The participation tab presents the user with opportunities to engage in discussions, nominations, prizes, and local TED events. The about tab shows to present more detail than the section on the home page. This about tab presents the user the options to read about the history of the organization, the program initiatives, as well as the option to partner with the organization.

Generally, this seems to be a fully functioning web site while at the same time making it relatively easy for the user to navigate through. What is beneficial about this web site is its organization. Because the website is so organized, it is appealing towards the user. The web site also demonstrates its taste for graphic designing as it is colorful yet easy to read.
