Introduction

Teen pregnancy and consequent early parenthood is an experience that alters the experience of an individual. The state of motherhood or fatherhood at an early age is a cause of pressing demands to the teenagers who could be school going age. The responsibilities associated with teenage pregnancy are usually overwhelming and the mother, the father, the child and the grandparents are all affected. The teenage parents may fail to get the needed support from their parents, the experience becomes further daunting and the grandparents to the new-born are also exposed to challenges (Mollborn, 92–104).

Teenage parents fall in the age bracket of 13 to 19 years. The pressures experienced after the pregnancy forces them to drop out of school. The causes of the pressures could be stigmatization arising from the state of early parenthood, peer isolation, lack of family, school mates and friends support

Literature review

Review of available literature will cover the effects of teen pregnancy teen parents and their family. This will include the mother, father, the child and the grandparents. The literature will also address the effects of teen pregnancy on the society including foster care, financial needs and welfare needs. Lack of appropriate support to the teen parents is consequential to an assortment of detrimental effects. The traditional focus of the research concerning teen pregnancies has always been socio-economic outcomes caused by lack of employment and therefore lack of earnings.

The existing possible solutions and breaking the cycle of teen pregnancy will also be an important part of literature in this paper with specific interests on the use of birth control, educating the teenagers about the dangers associated with early sex life and involvement of social service agencies along with other organizations in enlightening the teenagers about the issue. Education has been given priority as the best measure in mitigating the negative outcomes associated with teen pregnancies. The use of school-based programs has also been applied to keep the teenage mothers at school with considerable success (Stephens, Wolf, & Batten, 5–8).

Methodology

With respect to the current research, appropriate procedures and methodologies will be applied to ensure that all the above objectives are achieved. This research will involve secondary research mainly dealing with collection and use of existing data. The sources of information that will be helpful in this research paper include the following:

  1. Previous researches papers on teen pregnancy
  2. Relevant journals and books on teen pregnancy
  3. Relevant internet sources
  4. Other related teen pregnancy materials as the researcher finds appropriate to use.

Data obtained from these secondary sources will be utilized mainly in the development of the literature part of the study. This will help reinforce a critical understanding of the research problem and core characteristics of the study phenomenon.
