Tel-Comm-Tek

It is a fact that successful companies have good management teams in place to effectively lead the company and its employees in the right direction to align with corporate objectives. This is a way for companies to increase profits and keep the company in a competitive position in the marketplace, particularly the global marketplace. This is why it is important to have effective managers within the organization to facilitate the company’s growth, especially during times of expansion. Effective managers are keys to a successful business, as they are responsible for running the business for its owners and stakeholders. When a company considers managerial candidates to fill manager positions, it is best they consider those who have qualities such as experience, maturity, dedication and dynamics, according to Entrepreneur.com. Companies such as Tel-Common-Tek (TCT) that have expanded business operations to foreign countries should take care in hiring their managers, particularly when it comes to foreign assignments.

Individual Characteristics and Qualifications of Managerial Candidates

Tel-Comm-Tek should consider managerial candidates that have characteristics and qualifications such as educational credentials, varied experience, creativity, knowledge of India, strategic marketing ability, exemplary work ethic, commitment and drive. These qualifications and characteristics are necessary to deliver what the business requires(Entrepreneur.com). This is also important for the long-term outlook, as a company must continue to grow and evolve to stay competitive in the market. Additionally, these characteristics and qualifications will be needed for its foreign assignment of expanding into India. The foreign assignment for the new TCT manager includes organizing the expansion of its Indian operations, as it is poised to evolve into a key element of the company’s value chain, globally, as “the center point of its Asian operations” (Daniels, Radebaugh, &Sullivan, 2011, p. 783). TCT’s Asian Regional Office is responsible for nominating a new managing director for TCT in India.

List of Candidates

The text offers a case study on Tel-Comm-Tek that includes the company having to make a choice for a new managing director, as their previous managing director resigned. The selection committee for this position has listed finalists for the position. From the list of candidates identified in the case study, I think that the selection committee should nominate Ravi Desai. Ravi is the best candidate for the position because it would be the next logical step in his career, as he already has extensive experience as an assistant managing director in the Asian market within the company. This is a key qualification, as he will require less of a learning curve, which is crucial to keeping business flowing as smoothly as possible during the transition. Additionally, he has experience in production and sales in Southeast Asian markets, as well as he is a citizen of India. Being a citizen of India means he has pride in the country and will be especially committed to seeing success in the business, as it is good for the Indian economy. In addition, he is familiar with the laws, customs and business culture of India. Ravi’s educational credentials are also specifically relevant to the position, as he has a degree from a well-known management university. Ravi also has the recommendation of others within the organization(Daniels, Radebaugh, & Sullivan, 2011).TCT needs someone who is able to handle the foreign assignment and lead the global operations in its Indian expansion effort.
