Television, Essay Example

Words: 226

Essay

The television was invented and designed to solve the fundamental problem that radio presented in that only audio could be passed to listeners through radio waves without the possibility of visual images to pass through.  This problem forced people to use their imaginations to create their own images to match the audio of common radio shows that are very similar to television drama or comedy show.  The television was so highly desired to resolve the problem of a lack of visual imagery that “RCA, the company that dominated the radio business in the United States with its two NBC networks, invested $50 million in the development of electronic television” (Stephens, 2010).  This clearly shows that the importance of advancing from a limited media method in radio to a more advanced sound- and image-based technology were worth the investment by a leader in the radio industry.  Furthermore, the development of television created a brand new insight into changing the news, advertising, film, radio and at-home leisure industries by adding moving images to audio and presenting it in an easy method for viewers to receive (Television, 2011).  Through understanding the key problem that radio presented, many industries were able to advance through a simple concept of adding image projections to audio.
