The Ability To Deal With Stress, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 357

Essay

The ability to deal with stress rests on a number of factors that need to be built into the work/life balance.  With my own personal circumstances I find that one of the most important things is the ability to get a good night’s sleep.  This aids in feeling both relaxed and being alert. In order to promote sleep I take 30 minutes of intensive exercise about four hours before I go to bed. This together with a shower makes the body feel more relaxed and prepared for taking a good night’s sleep.   There is also the question of maintaining a healthy nutritional value of the food we eat.  It is important that we get the right nutrients and this means eating healthy, in particular fruit and vegetables.  I try to cut back on junk food and particularly drinks full of sugar that make you put on weight and feel lethargic.

I feel that stress management is also about control.  In this sense I try to project manage my work and stress levels by effective planning. This means allowing adequate time to complete my work and chores without letting them build up and increase my stress levels.  A build-up of stress can be very dangerous to your health leading to blood pressure, cardiovascular problems and where this leads to obesity the problem of diabetes.  In this sense I would recommend to others the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle that combines a regime of healthy eating, exercise and sleep.  In my own life I find that the biggest cause of stress relates to trying to achieve multiple deadlines with only a limited amount of time available.  Even applying planning to this it is not always possible to achieve all of the targets and then it becomes a question of prioritization and trying to minimize the impact of areas where I under achieve.

Whilst online distant learning creates a degree of flexibility in the overall learning process, nevertheless it does create certain imperatives in achieving deadlines and as such lacks the human face of personal contact and negotiation.  With improved organization and perseverance most of the negative outcomes can be eliminated.
