The Act of Slavery Is a Social Injustice, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 310

Essay

The act of slavery is a social injustice to the slave. Conferring from personal experience as a former slave, I am opposed to the cruelty and injustice of slavery. Slavery affected my pursuit of happiness and liberty given the horrific and brutal conditions I underwent as being a slave. Belonging to another human being led to the disruptions, constrictions, pain and frustrations within the family life. It inhibited a stable family formation for since common siblings within n enslaved family could be owned by different slave masters, which facilitated in making stable and secure family life impossible.

It was dehumanizing since family separation through sale of a family member was a constant threat. Additionally, some slaves were forced on taking their masters names for life which fundamentally changed their identity and conformity to the slaves tradition. The diet and food that slaves were offered were also unhealthy.

The fact that slaves were also not allowed to legally marrying in other States was also a limiting factor to family continuity. I believe that every human has the right to freedom and not having their human rights violated by other people. The promotion of self-hate that slave masters utilized by the Machiavellian systems mentally broke down slaves because the slave masters sometimes succeeded in using their superiority as a propaganda tool within their power to teach the slaves to hate themselves. These issues still have major influence on the consciousness and confidence of the slaves’ descendants today.

The most imperative fact worth noting about the effects of slavery on the slave is that it greatly contributed to the weakening of most families. It explains why most slaves’ descendants are born to single mothers or unmarried women. This is one of the major reasons why I am opposed to slavery as well as the hard or harsh conditions they are forced to undergo by their masters.
