Background of the Case

This presentation shall support a specific case that involves a local consumer who is in need of assistance in choosing what particular brand of medication best suits her situation and that of her child’s. Looking through different elements of consideration, this documentation shall try to examine the most important factors that would fully identify with the needs of the people involved in the case accordingly.

The case

You are walking to Walgreens to buy something. A new family member of a school-age child who’s English is a second language callsyou and tells you that her child has a temperature 100.5 F degree. She then asks you what to give the child to lower the temperature, and you have no medical background?

Given this case-brief, it is assumed that the onlooker in the case also have a consumer-level of understanding on what the medicines are for, how they work and whether or not choose a particular brand for fever medication offered in the market. These conditions of thinking shall be better used to create a dependable point of reasoning that would best suit the thinking of the consumer and the willingness to accept a particular brand that is offered in the market. Guided by questions, the responses shall provide a better indication on the knowledge of the assisting consumer about the brands offered as points of choices.

What are your thoughts as you walk down the aisle where there is Tylenol, Motrin/Advil?

While Tylenol, Motrin and Advil are the three most common medical interventions often offered to patients experiencing fever as an immediate course of relief, these three types of fever medication do have particular concentrations. Most often than not, Tylenol is used as an intervention to pain. When symptoms of allergies, headaches and colds are present along with the fever, Tylenol is considered to be the most effective medication that affects the overall condition by which the pain is relieved and the fever is reduced accordingly.

Meanwhile, Advil is an anti-inflammatory medication that concentrates on relieving fever often caused by inflammation in the patient. This medication also intends to improve the sleep pattern of the patient who is experiencing particular inflammations, therefore aiding the recovery process of the patient while undergoing supportive medication.

Mortrin, another known name for Advil, does have the same effect as does Advil. However, it is often watched and avoided to be given to individuals with asthma as it does affect inflammations in the air passage which might cause further damages for individuals already having asthma anomalies in their system.

How would you make the best choice based on the generic names, form of the medication, the strength guidelines for the specific age/ the cost and the varieties?’

Based on the age-range of the patient, Advil offers a variety medication forms that would best suit the intake capacities of the individual in concern. Since the patient in this case is a child, it might help to give attention to the provision of Advil in gel-form making it easier for the child to take in the medicine and have the medicine dissolve into the system more efficiently. This Advil development in 1994 was specifically undergone by the manufacturing company producing Advil, due to the demand for a much easier to take-in type of anti-fever medication that would suit both kids and old-aged patients.

Tylenol, on the other hand, might be quite a better choice when pricing is concerned. Most often than not, the level of marketing used by the companies producing such medications affect the overall pricing level for such medicines; hence, being the more advertised medication, Advil’s pricing is a little bit more on the edge, one that basically makes Tylenol a more practical choice for some under a much tighter budget.

Conclusion

Based from this discussion, it is rather clear that when it comes to choosing the right medication, consumers should see to it that the brands they choose have the right specifications of support provided to the patients depending on the case that they are dealing with; alongside the symptoms they are trying to treat. The age-range and the underlying cause of the sickness also ought to be noted so as to avoid side effects that may further make damages into the system later on. Pricing and brand options could later on be decided as well so as to suit the available budget that the consumer has on hand.
