The Auditor: An Instructional Novella, Essay Example

The novel’s plot is made up of episodes that depict events that are of like emotive magnitude. This has allowed the story to show the character, Jack Butler as a hero. Butler struggles from being a college student to achieving the title of partner on one of the biggest local accounting firms.

The novel has successfully portrayed the realistic nature of the pace and the stress involved in life at a public accounting firm. This is its greatest achievement and downfall. This is because while the novella concentrates on the day-to-day happenings in an accounting firm, it fails to consider that life in an accounting firm is mundane.

The character shares with the audience the experiences of being an accountant, the challenges and experiences with the customers. This throws the reader into a status of celebrity that comes together with ascent into top level management in a public accounting firm. The challenges associated with corruption are seen as the main character is requested by both clients and managers to perform suspicious acts. The character brings out issues that accompany entry level employment. The compensation levels do not match the rate and amount of output by the character.

The cast selected for the Novella further dampens the mood. The novella was tailored to provide drama. This is fuelled by conflict. A cast of accountants is seemingly unable to provide the conflict, tension and drama.

This provides learners and students with an insightful look at the life of an accountant in a public accounting firm. It draws upon the experiences of the character to pass a message to the target audience. It effectively shows a graduate accountant what to expect once they graduate and gain employment.
