Bait and Switch Technique
The bait and switch technique is used by the retailers or the sellers of a certain product to win the customers. The sellers give the clients the substitute products instead of the original products. They do this to avoid waste of a certain product due to its long stay ion the store or to recover the cost of the goods they lost during selling. The seller tends to advertise a product but in the real sense, when the client comes to purchase it, he or she is given another product which is not as the same one that was advertised. Many of the businesses have made a profit and have benefited a lot using this type of bait and switch technique. Many of them have recovered some of the money of the products that they thought will not sell in the market.
Examples of the Bait and Switch Technique
Cameras, computers or games comforts are some of the electronic products that the Bait and Switch Techniques can be used on. For instant a game retail shop will promote a game console package at a price considerably less then the optional retail price to bait the customers. Nevertheless, the price does not contain the sale of necessary accessories such as cables, controllers and memory cards. The buyer is then pressurized to switch to another comprehensive package at a much more costly price.
Such business practices are particularly common in shopping areas where there are an enormous number of shops that sells approximately the same range of products and due to the high level of opposition, retailers often resort to creative but not completely ethical nor legal tactics to recover their business. Unprincipled business practices such as bait and switch are not easy to eliminate despite the numerous rules and policy of advertising. For instance, the sale of forged software is clearly unethical and against the law and can be dealt with and restricted in a fairly uncomplicated manner. On the other hand, scam tactics such as the bait and switch technique, while unethical, is not entirely illegal and therefore, much harder to regulate than those that violate the law out rightly.
How the bait and switch technique works in the market today
The bait and switch technique contains the making of optimized and a normal page in the search engine which is regarded to as a spam. This is made for all the user agents under the same URL to use it. This is why today you get that many of the online retailers use this kind of technique to advertise their products, especially those who are involved in the promotion of the web and the adult web marketing strategy. The sites entice their main clients who purchase their products online through the use of a doorway pages.
The sites that sell the adults products at the recommended retail price normally use the traditional method of the bait and switch technique. When the client of a certain product confirms what he or she wanted via a phone call, what he or she gets is that it does not include any accessories or features which are always sold at a much higher price separately from the phone. The main concern of the large firms to sell what they have in the current market is to win the probably much more profitable follow-on implementation business. The large firms are ready to take the loss just because of trading at a low price in order to win the market (Hoffer, 2002). If this kind approach is taken, then the large firms are also involved in the bait and switch technique. But the problem comes when they take this opportunity of a loss leader technique to the sales opportunity around the world, bringing in a small team of sharp SOA planners in a pre-sales capacity to close the deals. But the core problem is that they normally do not have enough seasoned planners to go around.
Therefore they get that after closing the deal the SOA team moves to the next sale leaving a passel of wet behind the year’s developers just a few years out of the school holding the bag. The economics behind the number of SOA indicates that the SOA planners who are qualified are in short supply hence leading to the high demand which results into the markets to push their products high. The imbalance in the market place sometimes is created when the firm decides to their services less than the market value. Therefore those who get hurt are the clients who tend to thing that they are getting a deal but from the real sense they do get a shoddy work and the end of the stick. On the other end, the small firms take their risks to bid on this project charges a true market rates for the same services. The reason as to why the products of the boutique are always in demand is because they do have the qualified SOA planners within its staff members. Therefore you get that they command top dollar which in today’s market can be as high as five hundred dollars per hour for the most senior resources. The small firms has a numerous miscellaneous staff, and it is also planning on how to put senior and mid-level consultants on the same project, so as they can charge a bit less than the boutique firm. This is to show the large firms that as so long as they will continue to underbid the planners work, it means that they will continue to have too few resources to provide sufficient quality at least, until customers get wise and stop giving them their business, or worst of all to start taking them to court. If there is a client who have been ever burnt up the large firm’s bait and switch technique tactics then he or she can take this Zap Flash inside the heart before making the right choice of having the true service provider who can truly decide to do the work even if they are not the option of the least expensive. But what is hurting is that most of the organizations do not have such luxury. For instance, the institutions which are under the government control are always required by law to conduct a formal and an open RFP process and should choose the least cost provider. According to this case, there is always no escape. In addition, a number of the public sectors and few private sectors have policies that they cannot pay any consultant more than one hundred and fifty dollars per hour. But this is not a real indication that such organizations can not have a choice but to higher the poorly qualified team.
What we need to understand is that there is always a way around the bill per hour of the person’s work on the approach of coming up with a professional services and mostly when demand and supply are deriving up the value of the resources a person desires. Therefore, as a normal person or any client, never purchase such products by the hour rate but instead through the project. Consulting firms likes billing by the hour which they normally say that time and expenses since it shifts much of the risk of the project overruns to the client. On the other side the fixed bid projects shift such risks to the providers. Be that as it may, it is not that complicated to span original SOA arrangements with enough factors to anticipate a fixed-bid scheme. If the service supplier quotes deliverables in its place of hours, then the accurate cost per hour is concealed from outlook, and may not even be strong-minded ahead of time. What the SOA should believe on is that they should never undermine the part of the SOA planner’s engagement. If they do that it means that they will not have enough seasoned planners to go around. But in any case that happens; their clients together with their business will suffer as a result of that.
It is better for the boutique SOA consulting firms to stick to their guns instead of reducing the rates. This will imply that their most senior people will likely get the work done more quickly than the more junior people would have done. If they find that the firm they are working on is not providing them with anything they are looking for in a position, they should not even panic since there are plenty of other customers who will be luck to have you in the market. There is no reason to be paid low. A top SOA planner consultant should be bringing home upwards of two hundred thousand dollars annually. But remember, even if you are being paid what you are worth, if your firm is losing money on you, then something has got to give. You don not want to upset customers or unfavorably impact your career, or worse. So unless you are in a commissioned sales role, steer patent of working for firms that underbid your services.
Disadvantage of using Bait and Switch Technique
Let us take a case of an expert of a SEO involving himself in adult website promotion by employing the spam techniques, it might result only as a not permanent optimization solutions. This is because the majority of the search engine bots and crawlers visit the site a number of times monthly. When a crawler revisits a bait and switch adult website, it will become aware of a change in the content of the site and then it will regulate the search engine status. An SEO expert involved in adult website promotion should make sure that he employs the right SEO tactics to draw traffic and sell a product at a very superior price (Begg, 2003).
