The creation of policies for business organizations is a process noted to have a great impact on how the business itself is to take on considerations of expansion. Relatively, this is the reason why it is very important for administrators to take into serious account how they are to establish the policies of their business in relation to the operations they are to undertake especially those that are related to dealing with their internal and external stakeholders. David Brooks’ article on why the Swedish businessmen succeed both in America and in Sweden tries to define how business policies are supposed to be established and on what values they should be dependent upon.
In the article, Brooks point out how social culture plays a vital role in identifying the most important policies that are crucial to assuring organizational growth. The culture of a particular society identifies well on what is acceptable and what is not when it comes to establishing organizations. Most likely, such decisions on how to find the right people to be hired for a certain position in an organization do not only involve the hope of getting the right person for the job. The way the people recognize the role of the business organizations in providing the society’s population with ample employment opportunities they need should be carried into careful consideration. Administrators are then expected to take note of the fact that when it comes to deciding who to hire or where to hire from, they should have a structured policy that would coincide with the general culture of the community the organization exists with. When such rule is not given attention to, particular business organizations and the reputation that they have in the face of the society that they are engaging in becomes jeopardized thus putting the possibility of market growth and business development into a crucial stance.
True, business organizations are considered as separate entities that have specific identities and capabilities that define their role in the community. When the policies they create tend to break social bonds, they are also putting their possibilities for progress in danger. Hence, when making policies, it is important to note the society, its culture and how it might react to particular operations that the business would be engaging in. The business’ life expectancy largely depends on how much the society is willing to support its existence. If it is based on policies that do not coincide with such constrains of rules and natural regulations, it is unlikely that it would survive long years of being challenged with the ethical measuring tools that the society would use on defining its years of prevalence in the market.
Business ethics is also one element to consider when it comes to establishing policies for organizations. What is the organization for and what does it promise to provide the community with? This condition of existence defines the being of an organization. As an existing entity in the community, the realization of business administrators of the fact that they are able to impact those that are surrounding them, shall provide a better foundation that would help business operators define the borders and allowances that could serve as the basis for their policies. With such ethical boundaries, business organizations are able to scale their operations from being applicable versus being evasive to the living condition of the society. This process makes it easier for organizations to become more cautious in establishing the policies that would be the basis of their company’s culture which will be emanated into the community.
Policy-setting is also considered as the basis of brand establishment. The name of the company depends on the reputation that it presents the society with. With such reputation, the market shall decide whether or not they are to accept what the business offers. With such matter kept in mind, administrators ought to become more careful as they apply the different aspects of policy-making while defining their references upon the culture that they want to establish for their business which will be the mark that they make on the society and on the market they hope to provide service to.
