The Characteristics of Sales Employees, Essay Example

The research questions that I was able to develop are 1.) What are the characteristics of sales employees who work in workplaces with high retention rates? 2.) What are the opinions of these employees about their respective workplaces? And 3.) What are the qualities of workplaces that seem to inspire the loyalty of sales employees are? The qualitative approach that best fits these research questions is the grounded theory approach, since the questions basically aim to develop a theory of how salespeople come to a conclusion that a specific workplace is worth staying in.

However, before considering to finally going with the grounded theory approach, I also considered that other approaches that were identified by Creswell (2007). Aside from the grounded theory approach, I also thought to consider the case study approach. The case study approach is also useful in answering the research questions from different sources of data, such as employees, employers, and managers. However, I felt that the grounded theory approach offer a more systematic and organized manner of approaching the research problem and its questions than the case study approach. This made me more comfortable with the grounded theory approach. Secondly, I felt that the grounded theory approach was a better approach to use if I intended to transfer the results of the study to other settings, something that is a weakness for the case study approach because of the constraints placed by the context in which a case study is performed.
