The College of Nursing at New York University, Essay Example

My reasons for applying to the College of Nursing at New York University are really quite simple. I know what I want to do in my career and I wish to be the best at what I do. Just as I hold myself to high standards, I would like to attend a college that consistently strives to be the best in its field and that can provide me with the highest quality education. I have researched many colleges of nursing, looking not only at rankings such as the Gourman Report, but also at the programs offered and the faculty. By every measure, NYU comes out at the top. Its programs are strenuous and the college consistently strives to adapt its curriculum to meet the changing demands of the nursing field. The faculty members have excellent backgrounds and several sources report that their primary focus is on teaching and student development. I am also intrigued by NYU’s use of simulation learning, which provides a valuable tool for learning.

With all these advantages, NYU was the natural choice for me to pursue my goal of a nursing career. As you can see from my academic record, I am dedicated to doing excellent work in my academic pursuits. I very much would like to transfer to NYU so I can have the privilege of availing myself of its excellent programs, which I know will make me a better nurse. My educational plan is to complete my B.S. in nursing. I then will enter the nursing workforce so that I can gain practical experience and knowledge while putting my skills to use for the benefit of my patients. I plan to return to graduate school in nursing to seek a master’s degree specializing in child psychiatry. This population holds great interest for me because it offers the potential to make a significant difference; treating children now is an investment in the future for the child, his or her family, and society. I can think of no more vital or rewarding career.
