The Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children, Essay Example

The topic I have decided to choose for my upcoming research is the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) and prostituted teens. As Curtis et al. (2008) reported in their study of CSEC in New York, this category of crime is an issue grave and abhorrent yet hard to address. Their statements implied that the number of children forcedly involved in prostitution, child pornography, and trafficking ranges from 100,000 to the overwhelming 3,000,000. However, the challenges with addressing the problem include the difficulty of revealing such crimes, children’s unwillingness to acknowledge their age and the fact of being exploited, as well as the challenges of information sharing and homogeneous and aligned work of criminal justice, child welfare, educational, and other authorities (Curtis et al., 2008). Hence, the problem of designing a coherent and effective policy and institutional system to effectively address the challenge of ECSC is my research goal.
