Understanding the Concept of Special Education According to Case Analysis Discussion
Given the case of Michael, who is a student requiring specific special attention when it comes to learning, the response of his IEP team to seek therapeutic options for the sake of teaching the subject with the basic foundations of education could be considered practical yet at some point also reflexive of the idea that the local handlers of Michael’s case could still come up with better options that could be considered locally. For instance, the fact that the child needs special attention specifically addressing his emotional imbalances that affects his learning process, should give the educational administrators of the local district that these condition might also be evident in some other students and that they should be able to respond to such problems and create programs that are to be considered as measures of resolution to arising situations as this one. This would provide the administration to suffice the needs of children like Michael in the area.
For the mean time, the resolution of providing or supporting the outside program that Michael is to take for the amount of $3000 is within the range of what the local educational administration could provide. After all, even though it Is the child’s right to access appropriate education as needed, the [local] government does not imply the need to shoulder the whole amount of possibly enrolling on special education programs that exceptional students might need to be able to learn. The parents of students with special needs ought to understand that it is also their responsibility to fund for their children’s needs. Although they may have the backing of the government, they are not held free from any obligation in relation to such situation. Being the parents, they should be able to provide for what their child needs. Nevertheless, there are also other programs that the government offers under the FAPE [Free and Appropriate Public Education] provisions. Among this is the Federal Student Aid Program which includes cases like that of Michael’s. Students with intellectual disabilities are considered legible for getting such student-loan assistance (FAPE, Internet). Michael’s parents should better check the condition of their status in getting such loan and having an easier chance of providing their son with the learning assistance that he needs. Accessing all possible aids that could be provided by the government could ease out the financial burden that is supposed to be accumulated by the parents to support Michael’s learning. Nevertheless, it would still be more helpful if the local educational administrators of the area where Michael is located at would be willing to establish and develop programs for children specifically experiencing the same case as that of Michael’s thus easing out the financial burdens from parents who need to deal with such learning issues with their children.
