Essay

As part of this rooted culture cattle’s rustling is a practice of robbing pastoralist and our communities by stealing livestock for either economic or social gain. This livestock is a fundamental form capital, means of production, storage, transport and transfer of food and wealth. The natural resources such as pasture, water, natural vegetation and livestock are key drivers of these generic engagements of economy and source of the prime livelihoods.

Historically cattle rustling cattle rustling in our community is as old as the creation of earth that the ancient fathers and grandfather used to balance the inequality in the post-independence era. Matters of at least developed and the infrastructure being poorly developed with the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands, few schools, health facilities and poor telecommunication services. This indeed created the disparity in the economies of our communities and living standards between most of our engagements and the rest of the populace as extremely wide. This was ideally reduced access to resources of land and water thus intense pressure resulting to fighting for survival through engaging in cattle rustling.

Values of cattle rustling as is still practiced is based on assumptions of beneficial gains of wealth, the source of earnings, marriage values, institutional power, religious, and leadership wrangles, and the management and control persisted. The ideal choice for this s due to peer influence, patriarchal roles, matrimonial demands, and the economic gains shaped by the pleasures, free will, social control, wars, forced participations, and the expectations offer after the engagements. Others fail and work against this old regenerative case due to dynamism in technology economic order, familial, religious and political.

The old and the middle aged men encourage this behaviour for procreation, sustenance of culture and to have lives revolves around and is defined by their cattle. Culture and native mentality of the large herds of livestock source of a secure livelihood base and a sign of prestige. A very high premium too was placed on the ownership of cattle, which is an integral part culture. Conflicts are placed on our communities culture demands that a successful member of our community is one who has the biggest and the largest herd of cattle.

The native basis of cattle unwilling to adopt new cultures and changes that the white man brought, and consequently, they shift to the unproductive nomadic way of living, and the failed education is a failure to actively participate in the institutional governance of the country at independence and after.

The practice of celebration and blessing of warriors as a ritual that encourages cattle rustling since post-independence, pre-colonial, and recent engagements, as well as marginalization, clearly gives a cultural practice, sanctioned and controlled by the forefathers.  The current phenomenon of cattle rustling is causing great concern and an emerged new trends, tendencies and dynamics, leading to commercialization and internationalization of the practice thus leading to adverse effects on the economic development thus poverty among our communities who uphold the practice.

Stereotypes that persist is vested on the unique culture and practices that demand the dire exclusions from the social expeditions and the institutional demands. Knowledge and the assumptions of the illegality that have some members of the community awareness of prosecution nationally, locally and morally are sceptical unnoticed. The general perceived economic benefits and the advantages of cattle rustling to the community, the family and to the headers. The view that the acts perceived disadvantages or negative effects of cattle rustling on the economic development of the community is being insignificant. The further overlooking extension of the misrepresented awareness of any problems associated with cattle rustling nature of the problem, consequences, what has been done to address them is subjective to the matter of practice on the same normative concept.

This problem therefore has to be unleashed to see it came through the share of the natural resource conflicts key being the cattle rustling, agro-pastoral conflict, and human-wildlife conflict that ramify the due cause and the consequences. The rational perspective is beyond visible impacts of physical and economic injuries, conflicts hidden in psychological effects on humans that need to be acknowledged and addressed. The rooted historical grievances of the land distribution, resource access, and colonization in the contemporary contexts of natural resource disagreements are often global and interconnected in the commercialisation of cattle rustling, links to global markets and illicit networks and approaches to alleviate and manage such conflicts must be equally holistic.

Issues surrounding this communal practice ideally engage the participation, voluntary and confidentiality of discussions and recordings discussed objectively. The major associational factors of cattle raiding are composed of resultant conspiracy including the illegal firearms, unoccupied pieces of land and limited security personnel. In addition, human-wildlife conflicts, high poverty levels related to limited employment opportunities, poor access to markets, frequent droughts, high HIV/AIDS prevalence, gender inequality, negative cultural practices, and negative parental attitudes in relation to education.

Triumph of cattle rustling engages theft of sheep, goats and cows, along farm inputs and irrigation equipment, is one of the difficult problems confronted by farmers, as well as the alcoholic beverages and weapons exchange. Several indigenous groups and outlaws are the main participants but in a perspective view as if legal and ideally practical and culturally accepted as a way of life. The institution rather is the main seen obstacle in this move, and the dire move is to build a strong resistant group made up of young, energetic, focused and patriotic to this way of life.

Significances of cattle rustling have emerged a new system of predatory exploitation of resources in the form of banditry and cattle rustling raids manifesting itself in various forms, and it is becoming endemic the new trend has emerged new trends, tendencies, and dynamics, leading to commercialization and internationalization of the practice.  The banditry and cattle rustling is exacerbated since it uniquely facilitated cheap means to end in this culture, it also opens up the border of concerns for exploitation and variety of laws in jurisdictions, it also concentrate institutional policies to earn ends policy making, implementation, monitoring, and evaluations.

The perpetrators win the public trust confidence and that are granted names from levels to levels of glory. To this large extent, it is the general view that the cattle rustling phenomenon has undergone a fundamental transformation from a cultural practice of testing a person’s personal bravery and prowess to bloody warfare between various groups. All these pose serious challenges to societal structures, survival

Persistence of more emergencies of commercialized cattle rustling where wealthy businesspeople, politicians, traders or local people were pursuing economic objectives finance raids among the communities. This greatly interferes with the future and assets of the pastoralists. Consequently, our pastoral communities are armed for protection against hostile groups. The threats caused by the increasing numbers of livestock losses and human deaths due to cattle rustling and other organized raids probably influence the pastoralists’ mobility and their migratory decisions and herd size, thereby undermining their livelihood sources and asset base.

Humanity and environmental degradation and dire consequence in our cultural and traditional cases are too ideal that it awakens policies, shapes goals, and finally depicts natural phenomenon to a larger context and the scopes. Where our desire cultural practice has to follow the land to allow soil and vegetation to recover, and human activities thrive in them, and this enable a good design to handle this activity in a rugged, harsh, and a hostile environment without being unleashed or controlled. Thus able to acquire the illegal arms, institutional reluctance, and the ability of self- marginalization’s henceforth a concern of the of the general goals of humanistic and understanding engagement to grant compromising stands for certain scaled and levels in the cultural relativism context.
