The Culture of Amazon, Essay Example

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the culture of an organization; the company we will be analyzing is Amazon. Culture is defined as elements that go beyond just the rules of the company. According to tama.edu, it is the behavior, beliefs, values, and symbols that one accepts generally without thinking about them. This report will consist of the culture, evolution, and in depth analysis on the culture’s current state and any recent (Last 18 months) changes undergone.

Amazon Company has a peculiar work culture. While it is commended as being exceptionally successful in the business community severe criticisms has been levels at the way this company relate to its employees. For example, both New York Times and the Observer have been publishing reports from Amazon employees claiming that the culture was punishment for them. Importantly, the company functions using five useful business strategies (Stone, 12).

They encompass becoming a God father by offering the customer a deal, which cannot be refused. Next is never giving information for which was not asked or absolutely necessary. Thirdly, is keeping work teams small enough to be fed with two pizzas. Fourth is limit talking and finally is be or get adverserial. With respect t this principle analysts content that for someone to survive in the company he/she must be willing to work in a conflict environment (Stone, 12).

Hence, the development of a work place culture of discomfort, emplyees complaining of being punished instead of rewarded for their contribution. This CEO who is the fifth richest man in the world emphasizes to employees that the company’s culture is one of hard work, but rewards for hard work is not compatible (Stone, 12).
