The Dark Side of Leadership, Essay Example

Words: 654

Essay

In the course of completing the subjects included within the course, I do recognize the fact that the course offered so many points of learning from which I got much of my confidence from. The five-week stretch of the course provided me with so much competence in handling the procedures of learning that are essential in improving my capabilities as a Mechanical Engineer. It is evident that all the subjects and lessons presented have been well defined and arched towards making up a good learning pattern for a student like myself. The first week was rather fruitful as I understood the need to make an effective indication on how information sources should be found and how they could be relatively connected to each other in the process of creating effective and sufficient arguments to define a specific situation.

The second week for me was the most engaging span of learning as it allowed me to see myself as part of a group and evaluate my personal values in line with the values of the team that I am supposed to work alongside with. I could personally say that from the second week’s lessons I was able to evaluate my personality and find a better way from which I could be able to relate to others and establish a better stance of leadership that would allow me to extend myself with my members hence creating a rather effective way of reestablishing the condition by which I could help others with their goals as well. Being an engineer, I know that this skill on personal development would give me the chance to improve my performance hence affecting the motivational approach that others could best gain confidence from.

The third week on the other end provided me a better sense of control especially in understanding how one project or one particular business grows in line with the competitive stance it gets especially in consideration with the measurements it is able to incur through research and business analysis procedures. It also gave me a chance to measure and identify the values of the different stakeholders of the organization and how important it is to respond to these particular matters hence increasing my competence as an asset of an organization or team that I would be working for.

The fourth week on the other end was quite a struggle for me. The involvement of both managerial and financial accounting in the said curriculum somehow hindered my progress. Nonetheless, surviving this particular challenge  proved to be an achievement for me as I began to see how accounting approaches does affect the operations of Engineering institutions as they engage in the business of competition in the global market. Improving the procedures of accounting through technological bearings specifically provided me an indicative learning on how effective technological application could be in reassuring the process from which the organization operates in.

Week five was more focused in dealing with the different elements that makes a business establishment much stronger in facing the competitive industries. The impact of business economics, business goals and human resource management on organizations did provide me a glimpse on how organizations should consider their stakeholders and the driving forces within and outside the institution as primary keys to their success in the industry.

Overall, the learning I get from the curriculum that has been presented to the class allowed me to become more flexible and specifically mindful of the interpersonal and business skills I need to incur as a leader and how these elements relate to my chosen profession of being a Mechanical Engineer. Every single subject has become helpful in creating a more competent member of a team on my part.
