Conservatives are associated with preferring traditional social ideas in terms of religion and culture. Therefore, modern conservatives typically uphold the laws that were set out by the Bible and tend to follow the laws that the Christian religion dictates. As a consequence, modern voters do not generally few conservative parties, such as the Republicans and the Tea Party, as those who would do well in initiating change if they were voted into office. Therefore, the brand that voters generally associate with the Republican Party has become damaged, as it appears to be a group for only Christian, white, and wealthy individuals.

In order for the Republican Party to fix itself, it would need to rebrand itself into an image that is generally more accepting of different types of people. Many of the individuals that head this party in elections across the country are old white men. In order for it to change its image, the first step it should take is to change the face of the people that are representing these ideals. It is important for more racially diverse and younger individuals to be the forerunners of the party to convince Democrats that fall within these demographics that Republican ideals may be representative of them too. In addition, for the conservative parties to be successful in elections, they must demonstrate that they are willing to work with the opposing parties to facilitate change. Republican lawmakers are well-known for preventing the actions of their opponents, and if a compromise cannot be reached, it will damage both the party and the country.

It appears that the Democratic Party learned from some of the mistakes that the Republicans made, but kept following other errors. It is important to consider that one of the major advantages of the Democratic Party is that it is demographically representative of the country as a whole. Leaders of different genders, races, socioeconomic statuses, and religions make up the Democratic Party, which is not true of the Republicans. Therefore, the Democratic Party was able to change the face of their group in order to connect more greatly with the people they serve.

One problem with the Democratic Party, which is an issue with both major parties in the United States, is that they continue to brand themselves as an argumentative group who will only agree to pass legislation if it has a liberal agenda. If the party continues to do so, no new legislation will be passed that pleases either Democrats or Republicans and the aspects of this nation that are currently not working well for anyone will continue to remain the same. Therefore it is important for Democrats, like Republicans to rebrand themselves so that they may become more successful in the future. While we generally think of Democrats as “the party of the people”, they will win less elections if people find that they are not able to enact any new legislation that will benefit them in the long run. However, they will be successful if they are able to mask these failures as putting a stop to the Republican agenda. This is unfortunate and it is important for the Democrats to learn from their past.
