The Effects of Hope and Fear, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 238

Essay

The author seeks to portray the effects of hope and fear on personal lifestyle and finances and national economy.

In my opinion, although household finances began to decline before the 2008 Financial Depression, the scenario worsened years following the recession. Indeed, this is portrayed by the author who explains that financial difficulties have further been worsened by great expectations of digital revolution in the period before and following the recession. Affected area has been print newspaper publishing, as most publications and readership are migrating online.

Overall, living the American dream has been increasingly elusive. While getting a decent job has become extremely difficult even to the educated, the effect is even worse on those with years of experience who are looking for jobs. The consequence is that it has led to serious mental depressions and dependency on friends and family for financial handouts. Individuals’ health and safety have also been compromised as desperation had driven some to do odd and risky jobs. Mainly available jobs are low-end work at supermarkets and factories. The reality is that there are limited opportunities for work in the corporate world.

In situations of injury or illnesses, individuals have resorted to depend on spouses, family and friends. Dependency on Medicare and Social Security Disability has also increased, for the few lucky who qualify.

In extreme case of daring abject poverty, individuals have been forced to sell their property and assets at throwaway prices to sustain their livelihoods.
