This semester my team was handed a project on organization’s culture. The project was meant to show how organizations work well under their different cultures. It was meant to display the way they work with employees, the way employees relate to one another, how organized they are and how well do they associate with customers. In addition, it looked at the main things that they prioritize on so that they can achieve on having an increasing number of clients on a daily basis. With the help of the group members who include Kera, Carolyne, Nick, Tyler and me, we came up with suggestions for the project and provided roles for each member to accomplish the project efficiently.
Our group Elite first interactions were very basic, and no much interaction happened. Through the following meetings, people started to appear confident with each other, although the group had no much connection. The interactions showed some positive characters and some negative ones in the group and in the individuals. For instance, Carolyne was always the one who would make the decisions in the group. Kera gave out good opinions and suggestions that some were actualized in the project. Nick is a straightforward person who does not talk much either. Tyler put the least effort in the group, he never made any effort in giving suggestions trying to help in the group, and he did not manage to attend most meetings.
The group had a bit of disorganization since many of the members never prioritized on the project and made it seems not so necessary to them. We had problems in making decisions. Nick and I could not make some decisions together because nothing I suggested was taken seriously. For instance, I suggested a restaurant near the university called AT & T to be a consideration as our project. However, no one accepted it actually no one said it was a good idea or not. No one in the team took up the leadership role where members would answer to someone and it appeared as one of the major problem. We lagged behind in making decisions because we had few suggestions. As a result, the project took time before it started to take shape. Having members who are dismally attached to the group is a disadvantage because no one shows any importance to the given work. No one will come up with a good idea or even give suggestions because they are disinterested. That is what based our sluggishness of conducting important issues in our group. No work was seemingly being done. For instance, we had to hand in the group’s draft. However, it was not handed in time to the professor. There was no proper communication on who was concerned with the overall work of the draft. Time limits were given, and still nothing was done in time. The professor had to email the group on the due date of the handing over the draft because it he had not gotten it. I went personally to enquire why he was asking for the draft, and I had thought it was handed over. However, four of the group members had not handed in their interviews, and thus, the result of the professor requesting for the work.
The effects that were felt by the team would portray in many ways how our group failed in making interactions work for the group. In addition, it also affected how group members utilized those interactions to use each member’s strengths in the project and make good headway in the project. Though it took some time to realize most of the issues in the project, members had to come out of their comfort zones and try to do something so that we could start the Project. The members made a decision to take up a restaurant kind of business by the name Pickle Barrel. However, after few discussions with the professor, the group decided to change, and the professor gave us a suggestion of trying Martin Luther King place on Pack Avenue. Members showed commitment to the group. Kera, Carolyne and me went to the Martin Luther King restaurant to ask if we would be permitted to do a survey in the restaurant. The manager gave us no feedback. Nick called back after some time to get permission to proceed from the manager. However, nothing happened, and we had to think fast because time was running out. Finally, the group decided to do the survey on Bistro the University café. The general performance of our group was wanting; it was very slow in actualizing the project. Though we did the project, we lacked in commitment and willpower to make the project work.
One of the critical events for the evolvement of the group was that only one person came with a suggestion, that being Carolyne. After going to Martin Luther King restaurant with Kera, Carolyne and I, the manager stalled in giving us a concrete answer. This promted Carolyne to request Nick to call the manager. However, nothing positive came out of it. Thus, we decided to do the survey of the Bistro restaurant in the University. Carolyne called up the manager and made the appointment. When the meeting occurred, Carolyne and Kera talked, most and we got the approval that we could our survey. All the members were present at the meeting apart from Tyler.
Characterization of the team’s processes, much was needed to be done fast nevertheless it was done this was possible by a few individuals in the group who put much effort. Carolyne efforts show her being a good leader. She did much of the suggestions and made sure that things were done maybe not in as efficient as she was supposed to be. However, she tried to coordinate the group and make things happen. Kera provided good suggestions, which characterized her as being a good team player and always available she did much that was asked of her. Nick was also a team player to and did things as asked though there was a lack of flexibility. He was always available in all meetings. Tyler was not available for many meetings his efforts were rarely seen in the group and lack of commitment to. I worked hard and accomplished most of the work like doing half of the power point presentation and did the Denison Organizational Culture Model.
This team has no future and if it has then it will have to realize that the common goal being the project should be the priority for everyone. The members of this group seem to work well alone. The team wouldnot last another project together. My behavior in the team made a great deal to happen for the project. I always made it well known of due dates for the work, which was needed. This made it possible for the members to hasten on their given roles to finish their work. I also contributed a lot to the project by doing all the work in the survey and Denison organizational culture model section. I felt that my opinions and suggestions were not taken seriously, as there were no responses to my suggestion on the restaurant AT & T near the university. I felt disrespected by the members. It was good to see that people would come up with one solution and work on it. For instance, the Bistro restaurant was a unanimous decision made by the group, which showed commitment, collaboration and showed good decision-making. It made me feel good about the project and the group too.
I think the group could have been more efficient if were quick in making decisions. If everyone participated in the group and if all members were good in communicating then that would have played a big role. In addition, if members respected each other it would make people more at ease and want more association in the group. Showing good commitment in the group and adapting to change fast would have made the group more efficient and effective. I played the role of participating well in the group, having committed myself to the project and not relenting even when the work was a lot. I think I have been very helpful to the team, my efforts showed off in the project.
The team members thought I put good effort on the project, although I may not have communicated a lot, hence, I substituted that for doing many of the write-ups. I think I need to make more determination when it comes to communication because am poor in it. I am an international student, hence, my English is hampered, and I cannot communicate as eloquently as I would want. I will try to be more confident in interacting with people regardless of my weak English. The best aspects are that we can still come together and complete a project. We made the project a success this was because we unified in completing the project; we made unanimous decisions and used our ideas efficiently. The worst was that we were not well coordinated, and thus we did things very slow, we also didnot work as hard as expected, and we did most of our work at the end. Members were last minute kind of people who never had much hurry about doing things at the right time.
A lot should change on how members interact with one another, members should not show others that their opinions and suggestions do not count, respect one another and communicate openly. Commitment to the group and being at ease with each other goes a long way in brokering solidarity in the group. I would make it mandatory for each member to have a suggestion about a project, for everyone to contribute about the said suggestions and make a unanimous decision on one suggestion. Make sure all members are available if not they would not be acknowledged to have played a role and to invite active participation of all members of the group.
