The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 495

Essay

Name and Describe two (2) U.S. based compliance laws that exist

The Health Insurance Portability and Accounting Act (HIPAA) is a compliance law intended to ensure that personal medical and health-care related data and personal information remains private. It covers any information related to health care; as such, it affects organizations from health care providers to employers and any other organizations that have access to this type of information. It establishes protocols related to how health care information is stored, shared, and transmitted electronically.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) protects the privacy of student records. It applies specifically to educational institutions and to government agencies that handle or have access to student records. FERPA allows parents of students who are under 18 to access student records; once a student reaches 18 this no longer applies. It covers all personally identifiable information (PII) related to a student.

Discuss the levels of the CMMI process improvement approach

Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) incorporates multiple levels to assess process maturity. There are six levels, ranging from 0-5. In the context of an organizational security analysis, the levels are as follows: 0 (Nonexistent)- an absence of security controls or measures; 1 (Initial)- an ad hoc system that considers or responds to risks after the fact; 2 (Managed)- risks are recognized, but security is not well-planned or detailed; 3(Defined)- establishes security plans and policies exist; 4(Quantitatively Managed)- security polices and processes are established, as are regular risk assessments and vulnerability assessments. 5(Optimized)- the highest level; security policies and plans are at their highest capacities and effectiveness throughout an entire organization.

What is Scope and why is it important to a Risk Management Project?

When creating a risk management plan, it is important to determine the plan’s objectives, and also determine its limits, or scope. This establishes the purpose of the plan, and eliminates things the plan will not or does not need to cover. Sticking to the determined scope helps to avoid “scope creep” which can change the original plan parameters and lead to cost and time overruns and other issues.

What is a Cost Benefit Analysis and Why is it important?

The purpose and importance of a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) is implied in the name. Any recommendation about how to improve a process will come with costs; the CBA determines whether the cost of implementing a recommendation will exceed the value produced by the implementation.

Name and Describe the three (3) types of project management charts

The Milestone Plan Chart identifies the primary milestones of a project, and lays them out in a straightforward visual manner.

The Gantt Chart is common in project management, and provides a visual representation of the activities and schedule of a project. It is similar to the Milestone chart, but it provides more information for each step in the project.

The Critical Path Chart identifies which parts of a poroject are “critical,” meaning that if they are disrupted or delayed it will have a significant impact on the completion date of the project.
