The Fastest Way for the Republicans to Recover From Their Defeat, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 378

Essay

To recover from their recent White House defeat, the republican party will need to change their stance on abortion and immigration to compete with the Democrats. The Republican party lost a large percentage of the female and minority vote because of their views on abortion and immigration, two issues the republican party treats with old-fashioned conservatism. On abortion, they are pro-life. On minority status, they are anti-immigration and pro-deportation for illegal aliens. The republican’s stance on these two issues alienated a large percentage of the national vote: 69% of Hispanics voted for Obama–as did over 50% of women. By adopting a pro-choice stance on abortion and embracing legal immigration and new citizenship, the republican party could regain a majority of the female and minority vote.

In an America that is more diverse and populated than ever before, the republican party–in sticking to its roots as the party of personal liberty– needs to find a way to include all types of Americans into their party identity . In America, we now have Hindus from India,  Islamics from Iran and fifth-generation America Catholics all living and mingling together within the halls of commerce and education.   The new republican image needs to personify this image of America: a country of different religions and nationalities living together in varying social classes and conditions. For the republicans fto  prosper in the future, they will need to become open-minded and forward-thinking..

The Republican party needs to become, again, the party of personal liberty.  They need to remove government influence from social issues, restoring to the people their right to choose on issues like abortion. They need to embrace immigration so that small businesses have a larger work-force to recruit from . They need be more straight-forward when explaining their fiscal policies and deficit plans– this was a problem for Romney. And, perhaps most importantly, the republican party needs to re-vamp its modern image in a way that distances itself from the stereotypes that were created during the era of George Bush and Carl Rove. To regain America’s trust, the republicans needs to become the party of the people. They will have to reach out to the youth and convince us that they are the ones who will lead America to a future of social and financial prosperity.
