The Father of Modern Philosophy, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 316

Essay

Being a Cartesian and a mathematician altogether, Descartes’ way of thinking is affected by these two matters that specifically define his personality. Basing matters on the concept of logic, Descartes was noted for his capacity to change the course of western philosophy in answering particularly confusing questions in the world. Due to this matter, most of Descartes’ works are still being examined by scholars today.

To note, his most prominent works on the first, second and third meditations specifically provide a distinct indication on how he tries to respond to the arguments of Socrates on the existence of God as well as that of the distinctive relation of mind and body. What makes most of his works exceptional is that of their authenticity, the way he presents them as if they are to be read by non-scholars makes even his supposedly questionable thoughts easy to understand.

Not really aiming to break down the walls of religion, Descartes’ seemingly gave way to the distinct identification of the most scrupulous traditions that he has seen within the Catholic church. This is one of the legacies that he has implicated in the field of religion; to the point that some Catholic leaders even imply that the strong conviction of Descartes on the discussions he presented the society with, he specifically gave way to the division of the church caused by the intensified doubts among its members. Not only that, he also provided the society a glimpse of what is meant by individualism and how it could be used to define the being of a particular community based on the people living in it. True, because of his fearless presentation of the truth that he believes in, utilizing logic as the basis of most of his philosophies, dubbing Descartes as the father of modern philosophy has become evidently effective and compliant to the manner of thinking that he presents the world with.
