The Foundation for AIDS Research (amFAR) is an international organization that is comprised of a Board of Trustees, a management team, a Scientific Advisory Committee, and a Program Advisory Council (amFAR, 2014). The organization provides funding for research to prevent the spread of AIDS and to find a cure for the disease, and it receives significant donations from around the world to support its causes (amFAR, 2014). amFAR-funded projects have led to the development of new medications for HIV, prevention strategies, potential vaccines, diagnostic tools, and epidemiologic tools to determine the impact of HIV and AIDS in different areas throughout the world (amFAR, 2014). amFAR addresses many different areas associated with HIV and AIDS, including the support of research to combat the virus, prevention strategies, policymaking agendas, education, and treatment alternatives for patients, particularly those in the poorest areas throughout the world (amFAR, 2014).

amFAR is focused on all aspects of the HIV and AIDS crisis on an international scale, and much of its work is performed in areas where the rates of the virus are very high and where knowledge and treatment alternatives might be limited (amFAR, 2014). The organization accepts donations has secured a number of powerful sponsors throughout the years who have been instrumental in enabling the organization to achieve great success in many areas (amFAR, 2014). As a result of these efforts, research regarding HIV and AIDS have enabled many people to survive for decades with HIV, due to the treatment methods that are available (amFAR, 2014). Therefore, it is important to continue to focus efforts on these areas and to determine the types of resources that are required to continue the work that has been performed for the foreseeable future through increased donations and research efforts that aim to eradicate the disease in many countries.
