Research Paper

Cardiology is a discipline of medicine that focuses on the cardiovascular system. Cardiologists mainly deal with issues of the heart and arteries (Cure Research, n.d.; Cardiology Channel, n.d.). Cardiology coders and billers help cardiology practices run more efficiently through offering billing options and solutions. Most medical coding and billing specialists work via telecommute so that the full-time staff is able to tend to office matters that are equally important. Some practices have medical billing and coding specialists who work onsite while others outsource the work to medical billing and coding agencies.

Cardiologists treat symptoms and illnesses such as severe chest pain, breathing difficulties, high blood pressure, heart failure, hypertension, clots, and other problems relating to cardiovascular issues (Cure Research, n.d.). Cardiologists also perform an array of medical tests from cardiac catherizations to nuclear imaging.

The following treatments are commonly issued by cardiologists: “angioplasty, percutaneous, transluminal coronary angioplasty, consulting with surgeon about heart surgery, cardiac catheterization, intra-coronary stenting, prescribe medication, preventive strategies, diet modification, identification and treatment of hyperlipidemia, cessation of cigarette smoking, promote adequate physical exercise” (Cure Research, n.d.).

Cardiologists may also consult general physicians to determine an appropriate course of action. Additionally, if someone is experiencing serious problems such as high blood pressure, their general physician may refer them to a specialist (Cure Research, n.d.).
