The Ideal Nursing Job, Thesis Paper Example

Pages: 2

Words: 594

Thesis Paper

is very difficult to find the perfect nursing job in this country.  As large portion of the population ages and retires, it places a strain on the ability for hospitals to find and retain qualified nursing staff (AL-Hussami, 2008, p. 286).  This forces many hospitals to listen to nurses and hear what helps keep them motivated and interested in coming to work on a daily basis.  My ideal job would be one where the pay is good, the benefits are even better, and the hours are not so exhaustive that it is hard focus at work.  In addition to these things, it would be phenomenal to have management staff that supports our wishes and works to keep us motivated to perform well.  In other words, I would like to have a role that keeps me interested and eager to perform my job responsibilities, provides me with the support I need from the management staff, and allows me the freedom to do my work while getting paid very well to do it.

The problem lies in actually achieving this idea role.  First of all, the preliminary plan must include a strong educational background to teach me the skills and information I need to market myself to future employers.  I will also need to have mentors and friends that can connect with future employers and allow me an inside track on the best hospitals to work.  It is also important to know the philosophical management practices of the management team and then find out how well they are actually put into practice. I can ask the opinion of friends on the staff or even ask the management team while I am going through initial interviews.  It is also important to know how many hours a typical nursing staff member is required to work each day and each week.  Being overworked can cause nursing staff to become tired and unable to fulfill the required job responsibilities.

When times are tough or problems should arise, I also need to know that my management staff and doctors will help support me in providing the care necessary to the patients.  It may also be a good idea to ask questions to a doctor on staff to find out how much support they offer their nurses and how well the two groups work together.  This may not provide me with specific information, but it will give me an idea of the opinions that doctors have of their nursing staff.  The job should also pay me a strong salary.  I believe that with my educational background, internship opportunities, and the support of my mentors and friends I should be able to achieve this goal.  By having strong support in and out of the workplace, it will allow me to feel comfortable working in the nursing field and striving to achieve my ideal job.  It is also my hope that by working in the nursing profession I will be able to help others enter the profession and give them proper training and support to perform the best job possible.  The goal should always be to properly treat the patient, not to have the focus on strong personal achievements.
