The Importance of Using Credible Sources, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 309

Essay

One of the major benefits of using credible sources is that our audience is more willing to trust us. This is because our sources are often those who are considered expert in their respective fields and many of them have had their work evaluated by peers. The audience also trusts because it is possible for them to personally verify the source’s credentials. Using credible sources also increases our potential to persuade the audience with our point of view because we can demonstrate that our opinions have logical basis and are not just emotional appeal.

Internet has revolutionized information and has turned it into a commodity. But not all information is equal. Credible sources indicate high quality of information and make it easier for the audience to separate facts from opinions. Credible sources also give us confidence that the information meets the quality criteria set by respective professional organizations and academic fields and the claims have been carefully verified for accuracy.

Another benefit of using credible sources is that it is easier to learn about the biases, motives, and stereotypes that might have influenced the sources themselves. This is because there is more information available on the credible sources. When we are aware of the thinking styles preferred by particular sources, we are better able to understand the hidden messages and meanings in the written work.

Using credible sources is also important because it helps expand the cumulative knowledge of mankind. Every generation usually surpasses the previous generation because it is able to build upon the progress made by the previous generations instead of starting from the scratch. But if one is skeptical about the reliability of the information, he/she may hesitate to use such information. This is because any research based on faulty assumptions will only lead to failure as well as result in valuable loss of time and financial resources.
