Attention/Credibility Material: Have you ever felt lethargic, lazy and just not in the mood? This might be because your body lacks the energy it needs to function at its fullest. The body needs a minimum amount of vitamins each day to help you perform your everyday tasks to their fullest (Nuble). Vitamins not only help our bodies to function well, but they also help protect us from illnesses and boost our immune system.
Tie to the audience: Think about what you ate this morning and ask yourself if you have taken the sufficient amount of vitamins to help you perform at your best for the day.
Thesis and Preview: Today I’d like to talk to you about first, the importance of all the necessary vitamins your body needs, and also the deficiencies your body can have if you lack the right amount of vitamins in your daily intake of food.
[Transition into body of speech]: I’ll begin by summing up the different vitamins and their importance.
Body
There are a wide variety of vitamins and each is essential in an individual’s diet. They all play different roles and have different functions in taking care of the body for over-all well being and protection from unwanted illnesses and diseases.
There are certain types of vitamins which specialize in preventing diseases and illnesses (Florentino).
- Vitamin B1 prevents diseases, for example: Beri Beri. It plays an important role in oxidation of sugar in tissues, this includes the brain.
- Vitamin B6 is one which prevents skin diseases; this also stops the itching and the redness of skin. This vitamin can also help regulate your metabolism and break down fatty acids.
- Vitamin C is known to prevent human scurvy and also influenza. It is essential in the proper functioning of the cells in various tissues; this plays an important part in wound repair.
- Vitamin A is known to prevent conditions which hinder good eyesight. This is very essential for one’s growth and development.
- Vitamin E and K are antioxidants which protect the body against the negative effects of free radicals. These vitamins prevent blood clotting and helps blood cells as well as muscle tissue.
Other types of vitamins are seen to promote development in the body
- Vitamin D is important for bone development; this helps with bone development and prevents an individual from developing rickets.
- Vitamin B12 and Folic acids prevent anemia in a human being. This is essential for the formation of blood cells within an individual’s circulatory system. It increases white cell counts and the platelets through its action in the bone marrow
[Transition: The need for vitamins is seen in the roles vitamins play in our nutrition and you can see why each one is important for our health (Nuble). Not only do they play their parts in preventing disease, but they also help us to perform better in our everyday lives:
- the lack of Vitamins in the Body can lead to certain deficiencies which can be noticeable in how you feel, perform as well as how you look physically (Halber).
Vitamins and an imbalanced intake of food can lead to deficiencies in an individual
- If we do not receive enough of vitamins B1, B2 or A, we can feel tired and also a loss in our appetite.
- This can include such things like mental stress and irritability
- Physical conditions can be seen in cracked lips and paleness of the skin
Studies have shown that Cancer is linked to deficiencies in vitamins
- This includes vitamins D, E, B6, B12 and Folic Acid
- The right amounts of these vitamins should be taken every day to provide our bodies a boost in our immune system
- Additionally, these vitamins can help us feel refreshed.
Deficiencies in the lack of vitamin C in our bodies can also lower our immune system
- This is why vitamin C is recommended when you have the common cold
- Wounds are seen to heal slower and gums are more likely to bleed more if this vitamin is lacking in your diet

Transition: You can see how important vitamins are for your health, and how it is important to include all necessary vitamins to your diet.
Restate main ideas: I’ve told you about the impotence of each vitamins, the roles they play for helping the body function in both well being and growth. However you may decide on taking your vitamins is a step towards bettering your health and nutrition. Vitamins cannot be overlooked as unnecessary, they can help even save your life.
