The idea behind the establishment of moral saints is based on the identification of human individuals who strongly define themselves to be living within the limits of morality. This indicates that they do as much as they could to remain within the constraints of what is right and wrong. They consider making decisions that are in line with the principles of what is moral and constantly avoid doing what is against the said principles of morality. Being a saint is basically a state of being blameless. The capacity of a person to stay away from any particular source of shameful reputation specifically defines an individual’s desire to remain moral.
The journal of philosophy however tries to argue on whether or not morality should be considered as a basis of sanctity that a person is supposed to be known for. What is moral? Where could one find the strong and definite foundation of specific morality? These questions raise an identification crisis that remains specifically confusing especially in noting what is moral and what is not. In dealing with the modern culture of the human society, morality has taken different faces through time.
The truth is, morality is based on the differential condition of changes that are happening in the society trough the years. Humans become accustomed to certain situations that used to be immoral to them in the past decades. Through this particular adjustment of moral consideration, the identification of what is right and what is wrong also becomes bombarded by differential situations that guide specific groups into creating their own principles of morality. For instance, in the case of considering gender differences, Back when the issue of third sex generation is considered an immoral matter, people used to consider that being gay is wrong hence they intend to judge the individuals choosing to become a member of the said sector of gender. However, through time, the consideration of third gender individuals to be legitimate took a different stand. People who used to consider homosexuality to be immoral began to change their minds. At present, liberal thinking is the way of life for many human individuals. People begin to think that whatever one wants to be, so long as it does not hurt another individual, should be considered moral. For this particular reason, could individuals who consider themselves moral saints in the pas still be considered as moral saints at present if they did have a change of heart and yet consider their steps of living to be according to the morality that the modern society considers to be acceptable?
In connection with the reading presented herein, it is clear that moral saints should be identified according to their understanding of what is moral. Morality however is defined differently based on cultural background, traditional assumptions of one’s root of growth and the manner by which one considers social morality as a part of their personal being. In this case, moral saints could only be identified based on the kind of moral basis that they define their thinking on. Relatively, such condition of thinking and making decisions shall make a distinctive indication on how modern human individuals create a being among themselves that follow along the manner of social morality that is known and accepted according to the time that they are living in. Being morally saint becomes a source of identification that humans ought to be known for based on how the society creates a sense of moral distinction. With this particular indication of thinking, humans aiming to remain within the constraints of what is morally acceptable in the society are assumed to take their side based on what they think would make them acceptable to the society. Nevertheless, those who are not afraid of being defined differently through cleansing themselves is another option of moral sanctity that should be considered when being a saint is being talked about.
