The Key Components of Successful Entrepreneurship, Essay Example

Essay

In the essay “Passion for Wellness Translates into Entrepreneurship,” the reader learns the story of Carolyn Mazur, a former bodybuilder and athlete who channeled her understanding of the toll such pursuits can take on the body into developing a successful fitness- and wellness center. Along the way, Mazur learned several key lessons that can benefit any entrepreneur, and proved that the right combination of experience, business planning, and passion are crucial to the success of any business.

It seems simple, of course, but is important for any successful entrepreneur to have passion and enthusiasm for their business project. That does not necessarily mean that one must be excited about vending machines or disposable pens, or any other item or idea that can serve as the core of a business, but it does mean that one must have a passion for making that time or idea work as a business.

What Mazur demonstrated is that she now only had a passion for her project, but she also had an intimate understanding of what her clients needed. This is also a key component of any successful business: knowing one’s target audience or customer base. It does not matter how wonderful an idea might seem to a potential entrepreneur; if there are no customers or clients who are interested in that idea, the business will be doomed to fail. Not every entrepreneur will come at their business venture with the same personal knowledge base that Mazur brought, but understanding one’s customers is crucial for any business.

The final piece to the puzzle for any successful entrepreneurial venture is to have a solid business plan. While Mazur had a good understanding of what she wanted to do and what her potential customers would need and want, it was not until she worked with experts to develop her business plan that lenders were willing to support her venture. Not everyone will need to borrow money to start a business, but what makes sense to lenders should make sense to any entrepreneur: before you sink money into a business, make sure you have a solid business plan. The details may differ, but the success of nearly any entrepreneurial venture will depend on adhering to these key components.
