The Lady in Red, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 307

Essay

He is a handsome and well-dressed middle-aged gentleman with a serene look on his face as he lies in his open casket. His death is considered suspicious although there is no physical evidence that he did not die of natural causes. He was, however, found in the doorway of this particular funeral parlour that makes such corpses presentable and places them in a low-end coffin in one of the wake rooms. A wake is then held for 24 hours for three days. My police chief wants me to try and find out the circumstances of this man’s death. Although I have spent all of my years in the police force up to this point in North America, I was also stationed in a city in the United States where the belief in Voodoo and Zombies is quite strong.

Suddenly I am aware of a tall strikingly beautiful lady in red standing by the coffin, looking at the deceased. For a moment I am shocked to see someone dressed in red at a wake. Then I remember that in the Voodoo and Zombie culture anyone who has anything to do with the death is unable to wear black. The lady in red leaves. After a few moments I leave as well in the hope of being able to speak with this lady, but I cannot find her. I go back into the wake room, but it is empty. I remember that the guilty person can wake up the deceased, who may not have been really dead. There is nothing left for me but to go home. Sun begins to shine into my eyes, and I realize that I am waking up from my sleep—and there to greet me is the lady in red wanting me to see her insert a needle into a Voodoo doll made in my image.
