Research Paper

I am sure it is true that most people had a lullaby sung to them when they were little children. The lullaby represents our first beginnings because it is one of the first songs we ever hear and remember. I chose this topic because the lullaby is part of American culture and it is one of the most famous songs ever written.

There have been many lullaby songs through time but the most popular is called “Rock-a-bye Baby.” It first had the title of “Hush-a-bye Baby.” It is one of the first American poems written dating back to the 14th century. The first verse of the song is:

Rock-a-bye baby, in the tree top

When the wind blows, the cradle will rock

When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall

And down will go baby, cradle and all.

Here is an audio of the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVLDi-FFjVo

There are a few versions of how this song came to be, but the American history version says the song is a story from a young pilgrim boy who saw Native Indian mothers hang there baby cradles on tree branches and letting the wind rock the cradles, and this put the children to sleep.

Other countries use lullaby songs for their children too. For example, there are Chinese and Spanish lullabies and there are lullaby songs from India. A lullaby song is a way to make children calm, spend quality time with them and help them get to sleep. The lullaby is one of the best songs in the world.
