In the previous years, the Middle East has been characterized by a series of conflicts that has gained the attention of both the international community and powerful world states. Even so, oil appears as the driving force in all this.
The Middle East had been facing hostility for several decades, until international communities such as the United Nations decided to intervene and calm the situation. In the recent years, frustration and anger has been witnessed mostly among the Palestinians. The situation has been worsened by action from the Israeli trying to eliminate extremist leaders. The United States interest in the Middle East has been deemed as critical. Oil is their main interest, with the main approach being to help corrupt Arab leaders to take power in order to gain access of this precious commodity. In order to stop hostility and gain calm, hostile leaders have been eliminated.
When the young Tunisian man set himself ablaze, he helped to bring down the autocratic rule of Mubarak. When news of the young man went round, the need for revolution was rekindled among the people and they went into the streets demanding for a change of guard in their government. Additionally, hundreds of downtrodden and desperate young men decided to take to the streets to force the despotic governments of Arab countries, out of office. The reaction of Mubarak government following the man who set himself ablaze was to counter the protests with armed police officers.
In the wake of Middle East hostility, countries in this region went down one after the other. In countries, such Mauritania, Algeria, and Egypt, revolution took centre stage with dozens of youths setting themselves ablaze. Towards the end of 2013, most dictatorial leaders had been removed from power. However, due to unstable economy and social instability most countries are yet to realize fully, the second revolution. For instance, in 2013, Egypt experienced violence, which affected tourism negatively. Additionally, there was unrest caused by anti-brotherhood riots and Cairo was the most affected region. According to the tourism ministry, the negative effect of tourism is a big blow to the debt-ridden economy.
The new government in Egypt has been associated with numerous criminal cases. It has been under scrutiny for use of excessive force on humanity although it has refused to acknowledge. Notably, the Egyptian government has been accused of committing mass killings in the last summer. Human right groups demand investigations on President Abdel-Fattah and some of the senior military officials. The authorities are said to have used excessive force on protesters based on political relations. The new Egyptian government has also denied human rights groups’ access into the country, and keeps on postponing them.
In conclusion, although the people of Middle East look at their current states as second revolution, there is still a lot change in terms of economy and political stability among others. When Honsi Mubarak was forced out of office, most people thought that revolution had been completed in Egypt, but they were wrong, as it had just started. According to reports, major setbacks continue to be witnessed in Egypt, an indication that the regime of Mubarak is still very much alive. Hopefully, the elections conducted recently might help to put things in order, although systems are still being established. The newly formed government has committed numerous errors, and as it stands, there is still a long way to go for revolution to be realized.
