The Middle Sexes: Redefining He and She, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 302

Essay

The film simply explores the orientation of human sexuality as well as the variation in gender. The documentary helps us appreciate the understanding of the concept of nature versus nurture. The film is basically a commentary that integrates experts from the field of science with people from all corners of the world giving real life experiences. The rationale of the film is to exhibit to the audience the science behind the sexual preference of a person.

For instance, an 8 year old Noah is introduced in the film by one family. The boy happens to possess a keen interest on girls especially their mode of clothing as well as dancing. Although the boy enjoys girls clothing, makeup, dancing and fashion, his feminine conduct exhibits some abnormality since these are not things that most boys like. The family where this boy comes from does not take it positively for a boy child to like or even wear clothes meant for girls. The struggle by parents to change the feminine side of their boy proves futile as they realize that this is an inborn trait and not caused by their parenting style. At the end, parents decide to give no room for critics from people on how their child was violating the biblical and cultural beliefs and expectations. Instead, the parents decided to concentrate on ensuring that their child is happy through decisions and choices that he makes. This is only one among the many examples that have been used in the film to prove the fact that intersexuality is a natural phenomenon.

The film clearly portrays people of intersex and transgender in the entire globe and explains the biological basis behind gender variances. Therefore, this documentary strongly depicts that sexual orientation is something that is natural and not mere choices that are made by people.
