The Movie Skyfall, Essay Example

Pages: 3

Words: 809

Essay

The movie Skyfall demonstrates that human beings are superior to the technology which is created by them. The best example is when the villain discusses the problem that was inherent at his grandmother’s coconut plantation. He discusses that the rats would continuously eat the coconuts. The manner by which this aspect was solved was operant conditioning. The rats were baited and collected using the food which they had been attracted (BBFC 1).

After the rats had been baited and collected in a barrel, the barrel was sealed. The rats had to remain in the barrel enclosed for thirty days. After the rats had been released, they had become conditioned not to eating coconuts but to eating each other. This is one aspects where the humans came out on top over technology (BBFC 1).

Another aspect where the human beings come out on top is during the scene which started as the train fight scene. James Bond played by Daniel Craig is engaged in a fierce fight on the outside of the railroad car. He manages to get blown into the car with the explosion and the first thing which he does is to make sure that his cufflinks are well arranged. This is another aspect where the director Reggie Sam Mendes demonstrates that human’s comer out on top in reference to technology (BBFC 1).

One of the final aspects where it is shown that humans comer out on top of technology is where the villain who had been portrayed by director Reggie Sam Mendez demonstrates the manner by which he will attempt to kill the hero, James bond in the subterranean tunnel. He mentions sarcastically as he is climbing a ladder to escape that this is a new invention and perhaps the hero, James Bond has heard of it. It is called a radio.  Bond applies the same sense of sarcasm and irony in the end in order to apprehend the villain when he applies the use of radio in summoning his air support.  All in all, the scenes of the movie indicate that human beings come out on top in reference to technology (BBFC 1).

The selections which are taken by the cinematographer apply distinct elements. The element of water was applied in order to demonstrate the capacity of being reborn and reinvented. This had been demonstrated in the beginning as James Bond, portrayed by Daniel Craig, falls into a river after Moneypenny takes a shot at him in order to deter the initial villain of the movie from escaping. Bond receives the shot and as a result, takes a hiatus from the affairs of being a superhero espionage agent for MI 6 in order to enjoy and live life in the Mediterranean. This aspect demonstrated that after his exposure to the life of ease that he acquired weaknesses (BBFC 1).

Bond demonstrates his capacity of overcoming these weaknesses and regaining his edge. This is another aspect where the cinematographer uses the element of water to demonstrate the capacity of being created anew and being reborn. The visuals of water in order to provide rebirth and fire to symbolize death are applied throughout the film. The contrasting aspects of water and fire are demonstrated by the ending of the movie where the villain and the hero unite at Skyfall (BBFC 1).

The aspect of fire is applied in order to symbolize death, the death of M. The water in the frozen ice pond is applied in order to demonstrate James Bond’s capacity of being regenerated into a super hero spy. The aspects of the original Aston Martin DB6 which had been driven by Sean Connery almost fifty years ago in the movie which is titled Thunderball had been resuscitated. All of the elements which had been applied by the director and cinematographer in the film Skyfall represented rebirth and death (BBFC 1).

The characters of Lisa and Stella were added to the movie in order to correspond with the context of the times. In the early 1960s, the roles which had been portrayed by the men and the women in movies did not have clear cut lines.  Very often, a sexy woman was applied in order to be the femme fatale of the movie. This is perhaps the element that Alfred Hitchcock wanted to portray. The second element that Alfred Hitchcock could have wanted to portray is spectators (Jardine 1). The movie Rear Window is based on the voyeuristic aspects of the detective who had been portrayed by James Stewart. The roles of Lisa and Stella enable the film to progress as their aspects of being voyeurs and the aspect of their being similar to the popular femme fatales of the era in order to add suspense (Jardine 1).
