The Perks of Being a Buyer, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 359

Essay

As a denim buyer in a department store, I am facing a dilemma of choosing to buy Anna’s denims and that of Jean Pool. This is a challenging situation because I have been buying from Anna for the last three years, but Jean Pool has shown me a denim line that is better than Anna’s and more appealing.

The underlying issue in this case is pricing and quality as far as denim selection is concerned. One should consider factors such as pricing, wash, fabric weight, where the denim was made, body type and color before buying (Kim 55). Considering these factors is so crucial. For instance, athletic build and short people like tapered leg like jeans. This means that if most of your customers are athletic build and short for any given denim, then you should put this into consideration when buying stock. Denim market has so much competition (Miller and Woodward 77). There are rising star designers that come throughout all seasons and one should always strive to get the best out of them.

In this situation, it is crucial to take into consideration procedures for making orders. Anna is expecting me to order from her owing to our close business friendship, but in this case, I will consider the purchasing committee’s decision. Purchasing committees are so critical to business success in organizations (Snyder 190). We will have to settle on the best seller between the two; Anna and Jean. It is clear that I might not order this time from Anna.   Therefore, I will call her and explain about the situations at our organization. I will also tell her of another seller, Jean who offered to sell us at a fair price. However, I will inform her to improve her denim quality so that I can consider ordering from her in the next orders.
