The Prophet Jeremiah as Theological Symbol, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 316

Essay

This scripture relates to Jeremiah being thrown into a cistern. Maxwell leadership bible explores the incident from a moral and leadership perspective. The course content goes in-depth into integrity of the research process, especially, with researchers being accountable for the information shared with subjects regarding the research process being executed. The scripture emphasizes the importance of integrity as a leader in research or any aspect of life. It was unfortunate that Jeremiah’s integrity led to him into being thrown into a cistern by a wicked opponent.

In this chapter Jeremiah was carrying out his prophetic duties. He was sure that the right action was being taken, but he was punished by humans while being obedient to the divine. In today’s society there are not so many people openly prophesying to politicians. Maybe if there were no laws prohibiting prophesying to politicians more people might have suffered as Jeremiah did in his time. Like It or Not, the Buck Stops with the Leader is an interesting way of explaining how vulnerable a leader is. When he/she has a prophetic gift leadership becomes more difficult. If prayers are effective then, leaders ought to have prayer support twenty four hours a day.

Gary Yates’ (2010) commentary concerning Jeremiah as a prophet and leader advanced that in the book of Jeremiah he is a theological symbol. More importantly, the contention is that his life interprets the messages presented to the people of his time. The virtue of integrity in leadership cannot be over emphasized. It was further explained by Yates (2010) that Jeremiah was a metaphor for God meaning that he represented God’s presence on earth. Therefore, it could be concluded that in rebelling against his message was rejecting God and throwing Him in a cistern (Yates, 2010).
