Essay

I believe nursing is my calling, and I am called to be a servant leader, in which incorporates the understanding of integrating a Christian worldview into each activity, and establish a Christ-like deposition to providing the best patient care. Nurses are vessels that are used to care for the sick or the injured, and provide overall healing to the body. The purpose of nursing is to do the will of God by caring for the basic bodily needs of the person, and the overall well-being. I must be servant to God, and participate in the overall healing of the patient. While also providing consistent and effective care in the nursing environment, which will holistically improve the quality of life for patients. As nurses, I understand that it is my role for the patient to exist in an environment that allows them to flourish, providing hands on care, attentive assessments, and to heal their overall health. Nurses roles are portrayed as advocates, leaders, nurturers, honest and ethical individuals in which must sometimes take on the role as a the primary care provider, the therapists, and professionals. Nursing is practiced in several aspects, whether it be in public health care needs, public policy, leadership, or clinical. Nurses can practice nursing which includes being facilitating the best possible outcomes in many hospital settings, such as mental health centers, where nurses work in creating new outcomes, health solutions, and clinical practical guidelines.

Nurses have to abide by a code of ethics, and standards of practice in which I have responsibilities to the client, society, and the practice. As a psych nurse, I have to operate within the legal scope of the practice’s jurisdiction and licensure. This means for the client is to see them as a whole individual and provide the culturally and appropriate consonant. For the practice, it means to maintain and practice continued competencies in utilizing the appropriate interventions, safety measures, and up to date research practices. For society, this also means to be responsible in supporting and initiating actions that meet the social and health needs of the public.

The purpose that metaparadigm serves for nursing is rooted in the four basic theories for nursing, focuses on the nurse’s responsibilities, the patient’s environment, the well-being and health of the patient, and the patient as a whole. Each metaparadigm is important for nursing, as it incorporates four basic principles that define providing the optimum care for the best patient outcomes. I believe emphasis must be placed on these areas: 1) caring and nurturing environments to improve patient care quality, like Florence Nightingale; 2) holistic nursing of the practice environment; and 3) the nurse’s roles and support to a climate of change and progress. I believe nursing requires a caring and nurturing environment to improve patient care quality. The Christian worldview and thought play an integral part in the patient’s environment, as well as it does for the interaction between nurses and the patient. The environment is important it represents the humanity to interact and live it; it is a part of God’s creation that allows for individuals to flourish.  In acknowledging metaparadigm for nursing, I acknowledge that the most essential tenet is the whole patient, and providing quality care for the patient. This includes the health of their spirit, mental state, and physical body, as I incorporate the Christian view to notice that each individual has spiritual needs that we are able to minister to.

Christian worldview must be incorporated into my daily routine, because it has tremendous impact on my character that is shaped by my commitment to following in God’s path, as well as being seen as an image of God, that adds to my character as a person and a nurse. Nurses must embody compassion, acceptance, support, knowledge, and technical skill in working with their patients. A holistic environment that supports healing is essential to the success of the practice setting and the needs that must be served in providing the best care.
