Essay

Complementing some admirable character is unimpeachable, and it has more often become a rule in most places. However, the question is, how is it done? While some people could do it genuinely, some people are sarcastic and they just do it just for formality. Deep inside such people are hard feelings about this minority group that is outstanding.

Take the case of Senator Biden’s, for example, he is referring to Senator Barrack Obama as the first mainstream and articulate African-American. This, president bush too does, and he describes Senator Obama as articulate. The statement is right, but could have a lot of sarcasm in it. One could pause and ask if African Americans not learned, or rather are they so inferior such that one outstanding articulate one needs particular attention?  It could be foolish to think of why Americans not mostly refereed to as articulate. Probably by default, they ought to be articulate.

Oprah Winfrey is another character referred to as articulate. Richard Parsons, Condoleezza Rice, Deval Patrick, and many famous African-Americans form other handful articulate culprits. Surprisingly, cases arise where a promoted black colleague at work referred to as articulate after the promotion. Maybe one could wonder if it is the same employee or a different one. One cannot change overnight and be articulate if he /she were not before. The statement thus stands as questionable.

In general, most of the Americans still have some racism and biasness hidden inside them. An achievement by an African-American needs taken as a normal occurrence and not sort of a miracle discuss all over.

Words as weapons

The tongue is tiny but poisonous. Any word uttered to or about another person should be morally right. Despite people’s race or sex, they need respectful treatment.  Take the police sergeant who refers to the three female officers as hos while ordering them to stand up. Two black women and a Latina are the culprits, inclusive of Don Imus. Such cases are there, and lately referred to as the Imus virus.

As if the insult was not enough, another officer adds any refers to the three women as “nappy- headed hos.”  This presents insult of the highest order, having in mind they were three women amongst 17 male police officers.  This is just among many other cases that happen underground of women undergoing violation and humiliation at a point of helplessness. While powerful women will have the courage and money to file racist and sexist cases, majority would just keep it locked up. Some sexists could occur to pass their information jokingly, which is still humiliating. This cases need not be swallowed and ignored, and action need taking place.

If a study were to take place, where a black, or rather a non-American woman employed to raise the topic while having fun with fellow women, then such stories would arise. From this, one can collect data in several occasions to determine the frequency of occurrence of voicing humiliates to the minority members in America. The other approach that could work is employing the use of confidential questionnaires where respondents would include the minority members in America. The questionnaires should contain questions aimed at finding the frequency of voicing illusive comments to the respondents. Duly filled questioners then analyzed to come up with required information.
