The Real Worth of Women in a Disturbed Society, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 330

Essay

Assia Djebar’s ‘Fantasia’ specifically identifies well with the condition that occurred from the stretch of the French conquest of Algeria in the 1830s towards the War of Liberation in the 1950s. Featuring the life of a young woman who lied through the said era in Algeria, Djebar identifies well with the constraints of the society and how one intends to survive being in a chaotic society as she thrives to embrace her womanhood along with the desire to be independent from everything else that grounds her. It determines how a woman, living in a troublesome society needs to face a distinct challenge of living a life of frustration, especially one that is not able to determine the concept of believing that one’s dreams have the capacity of coming true.

Although the story is set in a chaotic situation, particularly far away from what is Algeria now, it still mirrors the common frustration of women around the globe. Although liberalization has already swiped the major cultures of the world, women still struggle to define their name and their capacity to embrace personal achievement. Notably, this pattern of thinking envelopes the world today, and women remain struggling to gain a reputation that would establish them as a strong gender, somewhat in balance and in an equal status to that of the men. Lost in her path, Fantasia sees the meaning of life in an uncanny way, somehow, in the same manner, women today tend to take the same path. Hard and twisted, there are instances when some women need to be lost first before they could find  their way towards realizing who they are and establishing a name for themselves. Practically, people around the globe have different interpretations on the real message of the novel ‘Fantasia’. Making a store reflective and definite in determining truths about life is the art of a literary art that aims to help readers relate directly to the narrative that the author presents, which this novel successfully attains.
