Introduction
This assignment evaluates on the reasons why gender roles differs in most societies. For us to critically understand gender roles and why they vary or differ, we must first understand what the term gender means. Gender has many valid definitions, in this study will address it in the sociological perspective. Which is defined as the person’s psychological identity as being either feminine or masculine and this is mostly assessed through experiences? Equipped with that, it is therefore right to say that gender roles can be defined as, male and female set of perceived and particularly associated behavioral norms in any social group or system. This can be summarized as labor division by gender. This is a set of array’s which the society uses to transform biological sexuality into products that are human affiliated activities, which meets the satisfactory by transforming their needs. All societies in the world have systems of gender/sex, the component or operation of these systems vary from society to society due to different belief and customs of these societies.
Researchers also believe that both socially obligatory policies and principles also ply role in the personal disposition and are the consequence that cements individual behaviors. According to Frank, 2009) these set of consequences which are either affected by unconscious, conscious or genetics policies. To others psychologist acclaims that subjective dispositions and orientations are the main emphasis, while other researchers mainly concentrate on the social systems objectives. This topic has a broad and wide meaning that will mainly revolves around the sociological stand and based on gender related roles in the society universally. This is because of the modernization and the change in creativity occurrences in the world which affects the basic element that is associated with gender roles influences that are principals and policies, that define genders and help differentiating the two from each other.
Cultures and society may not limit the development of gender roles but modernization and creativity is the huge hurdle that deters this process (Levin, 2007). Debate by scholars has been based on how and how fast can these factors that deter the process and how can literature help to amend these changes? When the gender issues arises the debate usually take the turn of differing view and critics are very high oblivious of the nature and stance of each scholar on the matter depending on the biological sex. This is a subject that will never be completely be resolve because of the changing of time and creativity and need lot of expounding and revision. (Frank Y. 2007)
For as to eloquently understand the term gender roles the other factors we are supposed to look into are; what is male and female? by differentiating the two we will understand the basic of creativity among these two sexes. Now with this in mind the most profound definition of gender roles now become attitudes and behaviors customary to a given society expected of the male and female.
Theory
While studying any gender related subject the theories are often related to the activity that the pursuant is studying, for in life the values and policies are many and hence the theories that govern and defines this topic are very many. In this study will try and best analyze some of the greatest theories from some of our renowned psychologist from the past and those who are critics of the past work and revised them for the betterment of the social study of gender roles due to changing times and trends that influences roles.
Social role theory; this theory was developed to help understand the cause of sex similarities and differences in social conducts in the year 1980. After introduction of this theory psychologist used meta-analytic methodology of research findings methods that brought about aggregated results of whether male or female behavior differs. This theory helps elaborate how women are more likely to perceive specific hypothetical business practices in ethical making of decisions than their fellow counter parts (men). The social theory helps us observes that when work experience of genders increases the gender differences observed in pre-career (students) declines. This theory also account for issues of monetary differences to be less great among the genders than in matters on of nonmonetary issues that has great differences (André, 2006).
This theory is based on beliefs that people hold about boys and girls and is very much reflected on the sexual division of gender and labor ladder of the society, this beliefs necessitate gender roles which through are varieties of reconciling procedures and harbors real differences in behaviors (Levin, 2007). Like in the society the boy child is supposed to be tough and the girl is supposed to be well mannered. This makes the boy child to have more power and resources compared too their counter parts (girls) with less power and status in the society.
Gender schema theory; this theory concept is based on the knowledge that the children learn and gather from the culture of the society they are born and raised in as to what are the requirement of a boy or girl to be men and women. Gender norms and expectation are the fact that govern and adjust the children behavior (Judith, 2004). The concept of femaleness or maleness has the influencing factor of ones behavior and perception in the society. In this theory the self-identity is derived from the norms and expectation of the community and the gender lenses that are in placed by the society as norms for certain gender and this make s it mandatory for one to embrace these social practices.
Gender development greatly depends on this theory and is observed in early childhood this schema that are developed and adapted in the younger days. This schema moulds the child to his/her own gender and this is greatly influenced by past experiences and activities. According to Kiger & Pamela (2004) these activities are the common make up facts that a baby takes in development stages like the discriminatory on the voices between those of male and female, facial looks and as the child grows they learn from the living sphere (society) how certain gender is supposed to adopt to different circumstances, experiences and lessons from the society or learning faculties.
Sex stereotypes and implicit personality theory; in order to understand this theory there are key issues that need to be addressed like what is sex stereotype? These are society belief and attitudes attributed to the development in gender and how the perception of the community based on the influence the society has on these attributes. How the differences is portrayed between the men and women, like the common trends where boys are considered heroes and the definition the dwells mostly on masculinity and machismo, women are seen as mere house wives and they form the minority ones in the society.
It right to say that this theory can be termed as structured policies of beliefs that are consistence and are attributed to men and women; this is the researchers view on sex stereotype. The definitions of the term implicit personality theory; the links in the structured policies, this links are the inferential relations which are consistence with the social classes of male and female. These can be basically termed as the occurrences of different frequency in the gender group’s reference to the psychological trait and behaviors which reflects that women are emotionally prone and men are aggressive, this theory coincides with the traditional sex roles and gender roles that men are construction workers while women are nurses.
Research
The research that will be reviewed from this study critically evaluate concerns of gender roles in the society and the sex roles, also centered in this study case will be the methodological issues that the theories have on the daily basis of life and how they affect the role of gender in development.
The emphasis of why one should advocate for the use of the above theories to explain and understand this context of gender roles is very useful both to the pursuant and practitioners on this study. The explanation helps the students to know how the roles are defined by the community, also help to learn the bases that are influential and know how to induce equality on where the policies set by the traditional sex stereotypes never centered their views upon (Levin, 2007). The term penis is here not associated to power, but the pursuant of this study learns the importance of inequality and how matters related to gender roles are balanced and hoe to induce these trends in the society and in the business arena.
This theory creates awareness that the society and the community leaves out while addressing general readiness infliction between the genders to information processing and if not sex based, the result as from the research shows women are more capable than men. This theories help explain and the pursuant of this study to learns why certain policies and tradition affect the way the gender adopt certain set of objectives which are later in life called livelihood of either man or woman.
Critical Analysis
Since gender roles and the theories associated with the categorization of women and men this study helps to critically analyze the setback brought forward by this theories and the impact it has on the pursuant of this study. These gender stereotypes trends that usually occur in the society, where we find that in most communities the men are the domineering spouse, like in the marriage that men are the ones who are supposed to propose. This attitudes are the ones that the study of gender roles are trying to eradicate and bring about equality among the society and pursuant of this study. Among many of these theories some critics mostly feminist have blushed off some of their revelation and shunned them to the promotion of equality. The theories portrays that the man inability is termed by bad luck and the women ability to sheer luck these attributes are macho and so masculine and they the deterring factors to many women who have skill but are only shunned and deterred by this attributes.
The theories help the world to be man domineering sphere where they occupy the most lucrative and prominent position in leadership and in the society. Because most standard associated with this theories are mostly from man points of view and this ultimately leads to the andocentric and all other theories that are deviant and deviate from this terminology are viewed as inferior departure.
The events that are associated with gender roles manifestation that effect the power and achievement of the individuals within the society as acclaimed by feminist critics influence the career related decisions and the livelihood associated with the characters that are pursuant to this study. Many women where power is concerned are excluded due to the theoretical nature and understanding based on these theories. Even with changing time the allocation of professional jobs should not be gender role based as this kills the spirit if competition and promotes unfairness with the society. And the question that many analyst of this study are left out inquiring will technology change women or vice versa? Equip with that knowledge the pursuant of the following will be able to base their knowledge on the subject on positive and beneficial trend when addressing issues related to this matter.
Conclusion
A great concern has been reflected on the areas that is concerned with the importance on socially and theoretically defined sex roles and behaviors. Products of abundance that revolves around the needs, self-concept and goals this amount to lifelong experience, and they begin at childhood, it generally good for the parent of these children to be armed with proper knowledge on how to direct their children in the right path. This setting of proper values and policies that will govern the child livelihood till death is very importance, but if the society still harbors traditional values then the child mentality will be that of a sex stereo type with masculinity and machismo that deters diversity and are bad practices for they are standing blocks to certain gender roles processes in certain sphere or society.
Our goals should be related to how we can create awareness on socialization process and how this will impact gender roles; this will help reduce inequality in the work place. It helps the pursuant to seek identifying ways and values which would bring gender socialization balance in this process defining gender roles, this will be enacted even in public domain while challenging policies that are set up which are not gender friendly and the result will cut down inequality in the process.
