Essay

Obviously, the reconsideration, critical review, and sharing of the action plan to improve parental involvement in the studies for the sake of increasing students’ achievement are necessary for the sake of adopting a realistic, unbiased idea of what has already been done, and what else needs to be done in the present field. Thus, my action plan as also reviewed for consistency and actions taken, enabling me to make conclusions about my achievements, and the fields in which I have to allocate much more effort for the sake of achieving the planned goals. For example, some types of involvement (according to Epstein’s classification) are at a fairly high level of development, while others still need more focus, effort, and resources for them to be incorporated in daily school routines.

The strength of my setting is that the parent workshops have been implemented, enabling parents to comprehend the development of their children; however, the resource awareness is still a weakness, since few parents attend local libraries to find materials focused on child development. I made a conclusion the present situation is explained by lack of knowledge about the presence of these resources. Hence, a special program of resource awareness is likely to help all parents become more directed in their literature search, and more involved in reading about how they can enhance their children’s development, and facilitate it.

The regular and efficient system of communication has already been established in my settings, keeping parents updated about the progress of their children, as well as school events relating to curricular and extra-curricular activities. However, at the same time, parents act as passive consumers of information up to date, since volunteering is not well-developed nowadays. There is a need to attract more parents to school volunteering, since they are able to offer their talents, interests, and resources for the sake of expanding their children’s possibilities. Thus, more attention should be paid to creating a volunteering team, and to involving parents in a friendly, non-intrusive ways. I also think that the combination of a student volunteering program with parental volunteering programs possesses many more advantages for this field, since parents wishing to instigate their children’s community interests and activities may be easier involved in the work of this kind.
