The Role of the Safety Director in Fleet Safety, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 288

Essay

The role if the safety director in fleet safety primarily involves making workers aware of the inherent risks of the job, in addition to educating them about how these risks could be avoided through training programs and the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE). Furthermore, the safety director needs to ensure that all operations are in accordance to OSHA standards and that employees have received the relevant OSHA training when applicable (OSHA, n.d.). If a worker discovers that an aspect of the worksite is not in compliance with OSHA standards, it is the safety director’s responsibility to rectify these safety concerns and to act as a liaison with OSHA to ensure that problems that either cannot be rectified or that the organization is not willing to rectify will be reported. Therefore, the safety director is responsible for representing the safety interests of all workers and should create an organizational culture that allow employees to feel that they are able to act as site whistleblowers when necessary.

To minimize risk at the worksite, it is the role of the safety director to provide employees with incentive regarding the report of problems and concerns on the worksite. As a consequence all complaints should be able to be made anonymously to protect the identity of the whistleblower. Furthermore, the safety director is responsible for enacting regular safety checks on fleet equipment to ensure that these safety problems could be prevented altogether. The safety director can put many standards in place that are consistent with OSHA requirements to ensure that the workplace and workers remain safe while on the job, making this a highly important position for the overall success of the work in addition to employee satisfaction.
