The Science That Reveals the Truth, Research Paper Example

How did humankind come to be?  Public schools over the decades have taught a scientific curriculum to students over the world.  Darwin’s theory of Evolution is often included in that instruction.  However, many lessons leave students with more confusion and questions rather than clarification and answers.  Did people actually crawl out of the sea as fish creatures, eventually taking the shape of the human beings that walk the earth today?  Or is there an ultimate Maker and Creator who spoke the Universe into existence and formed humans in His own image?  Many schools focus so hard on a scientific approach that they fail to see the science that actually supports Creation all in all.  Yes, religion includes maintaining a spiritual relationship with The Maker of the Universe, but there is evidence and science that actually supports the faith, the relationship with God, and the belief of Creation.  There is more scientific evidence supporting Creation than the theory of Evolution.

Evolution is the belief that the natural descent of all living things derives from a single common predecessor who initially evolved from inorganic material.[1]  This evolution is believed to be chaotic and disorganized.   Evolution points to life as the result of random events.  Over 150 years ago, British scientist Charles Darwin provided the evolution theory scientific weight by introducing a necessary mechanism he called “natural selection”.[2]  However, the mechanisms of Darwin are believed to be insufficient today, even in relation to genetic mutation science theories.  “With the tremendous advances we’ve made in molecular biology, biochemistry and genetics over the past fifty years we’ve been exposed to a whole new dimension in living systems that was previously unknown.”[3]

On the other hand, Creation accepts the presence of a divine Creator (God) who applied His omnipotent and creative capabilities by producing the universe, earth, and all of the different forms of life.[4]   Unlike the theory of Evolution, Creation positions that life is the result of intelligent and intended meaning and purpose.  Therefore, obvious design in biology points to the substantiation for an Ultimate Designer and Creator.

Over a century ago, Charles Darwin coined philosophies of evolution and natural selection.  During a journey, he observed the similarities and differences in various animal species.  Of course, different species of animals have similar traits, eyes, noses, ears, appendages, etc.  Darwin simply guessed that these variations would, and have over the course of centuries, change to the point that these animals would look dissimilar.  A large flaw in this theory, however, is the fact that many different species have numerous variations.  For instance, there are different kinds of flowers and dogs.  “This process of changing an organism’s appearance through a series of small changes is correctly called ‘microevolution.”[5]  However, microevolution simply means that certain changes could produce larger species or variations in colors, but the species does not change altogether.  “After a series of microevolutionary changes, a frog may be larger or changed in color, but it is still a frog—not a fish or a lizard.”[6]

The theory of Evolution proposes that over ten billion years ago, the universe was formed through an accidental collision of matter.  Living organisms, called abiogenesis, were then formed from the non-living mass, creating life as we know it today.[7]  According to Evolution, abiogenesis evolved over three billion years into every known life form such as bacteria, plants, animals, fish, and even human beings.  “There is no empirical (reproducible and testable) proof for abiogenesis or macroevolution.”[8]  Additionally, many Evolutionists argue that a change in DNA over the course of generations is evidence for the Evolution theory.  However, this is merely evidence of microevolution, not the Evolution theory or abiogenesis.

Today, Evolutionary scientists are searching for new mechanisms that can overcome genetic restrictions amongst numerous other limitations that have been recognized over the years disproving the theory of Evolution.  “Until this mechanism is found, the theory of evolution (a theory which has enjoyed prominence in biological circles for over 100 years) simply lacks feasibility, and thus, credibility.”[9]

Creation is based from the Bible.  The Bible is a scientifically accurate account of history and actual events.  To date, there is no scientific evidence that disproves any part of the Bible.  The first two chapters of the Bible, in the book of Genesis, readers are supplied an account of the creation of the universe, the earth, plants, animals, and humans.  Genesis 1 explains the physical events of creation whereas Genesis 2 provides a deeper look at the creation of man and woman.[10]  The differences between the two chapters may lead some to believe that there are discrepancies between the two accounts of Creation.  However, this is something merely flawed in the translation from the original Hebrew text.  For instance, Genesis 2:19 uses the perfect tense when explaining the creation of the animals.  Whereas chapter 2 in Genesis, is a recap of what has already been described in the last part of Genesis 1.

Creation shares many similarities with science.  Based on different ideas of creation, astrophysicist Hugh Ross proposes the same order of creation as the account provided in the Bible.  Although his theory is based from the big bang, it is important to note the similarities in the order of Creation.  First, the creation of the universe occurred (matter, time, space, the stars, and the planets).  Second, was the conversion of the earth’s atmosphere from opaque to translucent.  Third, the water cycle was created.  Fourth, the creation of the continents and the oceans occurred.  Fifth, plants were created on the continents.  Sixth, the stars, moon, and sun became visible from earth.  Seventh, small sea creatures were made.  Eighth, sea mammals were created.  Ninth, was the creation of birds.  Tenth, land mammals were made.  And lastly, mankind was created.[11]

Another great question about Biblical accounts of the beginning revolves around the story of Noah’s Ark.  Genesis 6-8 describes the great flood that consumed the earth and everything that was not saved on Noah’s large boat.  Although many like to imagine the flood being created by rainfall, the Bible mentions that the primary sources of water were “the fountains of the great deep” and “the windows of heaven.”  Science has revealed giant underwater springs, and it is also believed that the earth once had a much denser canopy of clouds than are present today.  Therefore, the account of Noah’s Ark is perfectly plausible, even on a scientific level.  The quick and sudden splash of water would have immediately drowned any unsuspecting animals and humans.  Additionally, this could, “explain the thousands of woolly mammoths that have been found perfectly preserved in polar areas—some with food still in their mouths. Once the protective canopy and its greenhouse effect was gone, the world would have turned cold on the poles, freezing the mammoths in the water that killed them.”[12]

Creation is a self-evident and commonly understood certainty.  Concept and creation need a smart and gifted designer.  Biology is also based upon order and design.  “Recognizing design in biology is not based upon religious premise (but upon empirical observation and logic), it certainly has theological implications.”[13]  Furthermore, when we relate the common principles of identifying design in living beings, we discover that it impossible to deny the existence of a Creator.

There are many pieces of science that support the shaping of the earth and life.  Some of these pieces of evidence could support both the Evolution theory as well as Creation.  However, there are far more pieces of evidence supporting the notion of Creation than the Evolution theory.  The ways that scientists measure the universe and its age support both Creation and Evolution.  Fossils on the earth testify to the truth of Creation and Biblical teaching.  Evolution indicates that fossilization would have occurred over a period of time.  However, this theory is highly implausible because other animals would have eaten the remains of these animals that became fossilized before they had a chance to fossilize.  The flood in accordance with Creation, better describes how fossils have been scattered around the world.  “The sediment on the bottom of the water would cover the remains (since it is very mobile compared to dirt on land—especially if there is a flood going on at the time) starting the process of fossilization.”[14]  The fact that the earth’s surface is deposited in layers may be attributed to either Evolution or Creation.  The earth’s surface could have been laid down in increments over time, or like evidence from the eruption of Mt. St. Helens has shown, the layers could have been deposited over the course of just a few days.[15]

Many scientific facts can be credited to the theory of Creation instead of Evolution.  Fossils have been discovered that span different geologic layers, groups of fossils are typically found together, scientists have arranged animals into a phylogenetic tree, scientists have discovered transitional forms and missing links, a great deal of animals suddenly appeared at the onset of the Cambrian Period, scientists have found “living fossils” such as coelacanth that have not transformed over billions of years, and scientists have discovered modern men in Pliocene deposits.

The debate of Evolution versus Creation is not a matter of science versus the Bible.  However, the debate merely surrounds the forms of evidence that support the two sides of the argument.  To the surprise of many, the Bible is a logically accurate description of history and real events.  Furthermore, there is no scientific evidence that refutes or invalidates any story in the Bible.  Darwin’s theory of Evolution is etched in textbooks and preached in public schools throughout the world.  Nevertheless, these science instructions leave students with more queries instead of clarification.  The questions many students house are a direct reflection of the lack of scientific evidence supporting the theory of Evolution.  Many institutions emphasize a scientific approach failing to see the lack of science for Evolution and the plethora of science supporting the Biblical account of Creation.  To date, there is more scientific evidence supporting Creation than the theory of Evolution.
