The SDoH Initiatives in the Community, Essay Example

Pages: 4

Words: 1117

Essay

There are many civic participation activities in which people get involved. I have been involved in voting as one of these events. I chose the voting event because I wanted to ensure that I exercise my democratic right as a citizen. I wanted to ensure that I participated in building our nation by giving my vote to the various leaders of my choice. I chose to be an active participant in the voting to ensure that I contribute to selecting the best leaders who would support the various interests of all the citizens (Popay et al., 2007). I chose the event because it was the participation event in my desire to contribute to the nation’s welfare.

My effort to participate in the voting greatly played a big role in ensuring that the various SDoH initiatives in the community and the general population were addressed. My participation in voting would ensure that the chosen leaders have developed strategies to ensure that all the disadvantaged people in society are given equal opportunities (Eltorai et al., 2017). Voting would ensure that the leaders chosen have standardized the prices of foods and that the foods sold to the communities are healthy (Popay et al., 2007). Voting would contribute to the overall security of walking in various outdoor places by coming up with various security measures. Finally, my participation in voting would ensure that the chosen leaders have made very decent housing available for all the citizens.

The various SDoH initiatives in the community can be arranged in terms of priority. The most important initiative should be the first one to be addressed, while the least important should be the last one (Schulz et al., 2002). In my opinion, I was able to rank these initiatives based on the order of importance. The first initiative to be the priority was ensuring that healthy foods were available to the communities and that their prices were affordable (Artiga et al., 2020). It was a priority because foods are the most important basic need of the people. The presence of affordable prices of foods and healthy foods would ensure zero hunger and zero illnesses related to unhealthy foods intake (Popay et al., 2007). The second priority would be ensuring that all the disadvantaged people in the society have the same opportunities to regain their health as all those who were healthy. I preferred to rank it the second one because, after healthy feeding, there would be the need to ensure that the health of all people is well looked at. It would be important to take good care of all the disadvantaged people. It would help these people to feel that their health is being cared for and feel that they are part of the citizens despite their health challenges.

The third priority was ensuring that the most decent housing was available for all the people who needed them. Good housing for those who could afford it would ensure that they have the best shelter, presentable, and a good place to live in. I would rank it as the third priority because affordable housing would be the next priority to ensure that they have comfortable lives in presentable houses (Popay et al., 2007). The last priority would be ensuring that there is the presence of the outdoor places which are safe to walk and being active in the communities physically. I would rank it as the last initiative priority because all the other three initiatives are the most basic needs in the lives of the citizens. Safety of the citizens while conducting their daily activities would only ensure peace and harmony and that the conduct of activities would be in a free safe environment (Assai et al., 2006). The initiative was ranked the last one because it serves to help citizens meet the above basic needs by being safe in the conduct of their businesses which gives citizens the income to acquire and settle bills related to their basic life needs.
