Sex within the United States has reached a point where the culture surrounding it affects younger individuals.  Teenagers are having sex at an early age, which can result in teen pregnancies and the spreading of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).  Culture and peers are undermining the values that are causing younger individuals in the United States to have sex at a younger age, and the accompanying consequences.

Culture

Modern culture has seen a rise in the display of items and worldview related to sex.  Unfortunately, teens and other young people, as well as adults, are exposed to these items and dynamics.  As a result they shape the minds and attitudes towards sex and sexuality on a broad scale.

Culture has affected the view upon sexual morals greatly.  Movies, music, television, and other mediums of culture have been increasingly displaying sexual dynamics.  From sex itself to the advertising and display of lesser sexual morals, these mediums are on display for teens and children to view.

Computers and other electronics have unfortunately added to the problem.  Pornography is a growing problem on the Internet.  Webcams, digital cameras, video recorders, and even cell phones help to gather these images for display as well.

Additionally the media also displays sexual topics for all ages of viewers to see.  There are constantly stories regarding celebrities being involved in affairs and sex scandals.  With the previous discussion on culture, it is common to see these stories being displayed, and then viewers being shown commercials for an inappropriate movie, which is directed towards the teenager age group.

The effect of this culture on young people has many points.  It is increasingly becoming more common for teenagers to be more promiscuous and discuss sex among their peers.  It even has effects on peer pressure in regards to sexual history of an individual.  Many teenagers thus feel pressured to have sexual relationships with others in order to fit in and be like some of their peers.

Results

As a result the sexuality of individuals in the United States has been altered when compared to previous generations.  While this is somewhat of a stereotype, when all of these factors are considered, it holds some truth.  Teenagers in particular remain one age group that is affected by all of these influences.

Teenagers are now having sex at an earlier age.  In the undermining of sexual values from many impersonal and personal influences, it is becoming more common for teenagers to have sexual relationships.  It is even realistic that many social circles of teenagers think that it is normal to have sex at this age.

STDs

STDs remain one product of sexual relationships from teenagers.  As teenagers are increasingly having sex, some of them are also unaware of how to use proper protection during sex.  As a result many have been infected with many possible diseases.  STDs remain a strong negative result from poor planning for young people.

Pregnancies

Teen pregnancies are on the rise.  Teen pregnancies are also the result of poor planning during unprotected sex.  As a result, it is not uncommon to see pregnant girls in middle and high school throughout the United States.  In reaction to this there have been many organizations dedicated to lowering such rates.  While public schools try to educate children on the dangers of unprotected sex, STDs and pregnancies in teenagers result from poor judgment and planning by young individuals.

STDs and teen pregnancies result in a frightening situation for teenagers.  Of course, most teenagers are not ready for the consequences and responsibilities involved in one of these outcomes if they occur.  As a result some are forced to live with the effects of the disease, or the increased responsibilities of being a mother so young.  Many teen pregnancies result in the mother dropping out of school and sacrificing one’s goals in order to be able to provide for the child.

Conclusion

Culture and technology have certainly affected the sexuality of teenagers in the United States.  Media, the Internet, and various outlets within today’s culture have propelled negative standards in regards to sex from teenagers and oncoming generations.  As a result, sexual morals are adversely affected within young people.

As a result teen pregnancies are on the rise and STDs are still a problem.  Unfortunately some teenagers have to deal with the effects and responsibilities that come with either of these outcomes.  For others, they have to live with the difficult effects of having one’s standards undermined in regards to sex, which can have damaging effects in one’s life.  Young individuals in the United States are clearly being affected by the various influences that perpetuate some of these lesser standards, where teenagers are being more sexually aware at a young age.
