The Shared Vision of a Company, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 279

Essay

In one of my past positions, I failed to agree with the shared vision of my company. However, I believe that it is the role of the employee to carry out this vision regardless. For some individuals, this may be difficult to do. As a consequence, it may be difficult for them to continue in their current position. Therefore, if the shared vision of a company clearly contrasts an employee’s own values, it may be beneficial for the employee to cease their affiliation with the company. It is essential however, that this only occurs in extreme situations because the employee must first consider the value that their company could have for them.

In the situation that an employee does not share the company’s vision, it may be useful for him or her to discuss this with their immediate manager. Rather than criticizing the company for their values, it would be valuable for the employee to mention his or her concerns. It is possible that that the employee’s vision will help the company’s vision improve which will help generate profit.

In my personal situation, although I didn’t agree with the shared vision of the company, I chose to attempt to buy into my organization’s shared vision. This was beneficial because it allowed me to perform my job in a manner that would please the company, which resulted in promotions. While I was frustrated at first that the company didn’t share my personal vision, I felt that this view began to change as I continued to work for them. Ultimately, my acceptance of their shared vision enhanced my work ethic and allowed me to see their reason for reaching to achieve certain goals.
